10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

A mid to low level graphics card, the GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB is found in budget machines nowadays, struggling to meet AAA system requirements.

GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

Lets look at the GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB game performance guide for some of the biggest games played in 2022. In particular we will see how well this graphics card runs on Ultra settings on 1080p resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. In terms of performance against the most demanding games today this graphics card can play 442 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

A GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB card at 1080p is predicted to see a reasonable frame rate when running Star Citizen on Ultra - 54 FPS. Lets look at the performance its getting on FIFA 22 which is 82 FPS. To add a bit more variety lets see how the popular Far Cry 6 performs on this hardware, which gets a weak 24 FPS.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we researched the upcoming Star Citizen to predict how the GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB would deal with it. Our research revealed a playable series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 108 FPS, Medium: 85 FPS, High: 57 FPS and Ultra: 41 FPS. Next we looked at FIFA 22 which was good with a 63 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Far Cry 6 that got an Ultra 1440p FPS of 18. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB is a good choice of hardware for increased screen resolution gaming. We can see this graphics card is capable of delivering reliable frame rates at Ultra and certainly High graphics settings at 1440p.

GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB is currently the entry level ASUS Nvidia GTX 1000 performance graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture. It comes with locked memory of 3GB instead of the full 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-300-A1 which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 9 SM activated, offering 1152 Shader Processing Units (the GTX 1060 6GB version offers 1280 SPU), 72 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1569MHz and goes up to 1785MHz, when Boost mode is activated.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual OC 3GB is capable of playing most modern game system requirements at high graphics settings. The 3GB version is normally around 5% worse than the GTX 1060 6GB full fat version in terms of sheer processing power. But its the 3GB memory reduction that will hamper the high quality game textures this card can deliver, making it less future proof, as more games are released that require GPU memory.

We expect this GPU to return around 50+ FPS at high graphics setting on most modern games @ 1080p screen resolution.
