How well can the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G graphics card is considered budget with poor modern game performance when playing anything more demanding than indie game requirements.

GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

How well will the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G run 2022 games? We will take a look at the biggest releases and frames per second analysis on Ultra graphics settings. The GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 391 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Grand Theft Auto VI and predict it will deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 61 FPS, Medium: 48 FPS, High: 32 FPS and Ultra: 23 FPS. We proceeded to look at Dying Light 2 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a weak 23 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G at 1440p and researched how Grand Theft Auto VI might perform on it leading us to predict a weak set of FPS results. These were, Low: 46 FPS, Medium: 36 FPS, High: 25 FPS and Ultra: 18 FPS. We then checked out Dying Light 2 which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 46FPS, M: 36FPS, H: 25FPS, U: 18FPS. And another popular game was Battlefield 2042 that returned L: 21FPS, M: 17FPS, H: 11FPS, U: 8FPS at 1440p. Getting popular modern games to run at 1440p on the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G is not going to be able to keep stable frame rates at all times at Ultra 1440p on modern games.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G in your PC? This GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G card has 12 to 18 months of latest AAA game play left in it before upgrading should be considered

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G.

GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G is currently the entry level MSI Nvidia GTX 1000 performance graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture. It comes with locked memory of 3GB instead of the full 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-300-A1 which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 9 SM activated, offering 1152 Shader Processing Units (the GTX 1060 6GB version offers 1280 SPU), 72 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1506MHz and goes up to 1708MHz, when Boost mode is activated.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor V1 3G is capable of playing most modern game system requirements at high graphics settings. The 3GB version is normally around 5% worse than the GTX 1060 6GB full fat version in terms of sheer processing power. But its the 3GB memory reduction that will hamper the high quality game textures this card can deliver, making it less future proof, as more games are released that require GPU memory.

We expect this GPU to return around 48+ FPS at high graphics setting on most modern games @ 1080p screen resolution.
