How well can the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB run games
14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

One of the more powerful mid range graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB might struggle sometimes with the more system demanding game requirements. GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

How well will the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB run 2019 games? We will take a look at the biggest releases and frames per second analysis on Ultra graphics settings. 332 games can be played by this graphics card of the 1000 most demanding games being played by PC gamers today.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing Need For Speed Heat getting 24 FPS with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB, Borderlands 3 getting 24 FPS and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare getting 18 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We discovered the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB ran Need For Speed Heat to a weak performance level. Results across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 47 FPS, Medium: 37 FPS, High: 25 FPS and Ultra: 18 FPS. Another game tested was Borderlands 3, L: 47FPS, M: 37FPS, H: 25FPS, U: 18FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which returned L: 36FPS, M: 29FPS, H: 19FPS, U: 14FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB is not the best resolution for this GPU, but if you adjust some graphics settings, perhaps lowering to medium or low at 1440p then this graphics card might be ok.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB? Upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB which is 91% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 897 games from the most demanding games today. An alternative great upgrade graphics card would be a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, which has 43% better performance and can run 686 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is one of Nvidia's lower end graphics card. It is competing against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the newer RX 470.

Architecture

The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and introduces support for second gen HBM.

GPU

It equips a GPU codenamed GP107-400 which has 6 SM activated and 768 Shader Processing Units, 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1290MHz and goes up to 1392MHz when the Boost Clock is triggered in game.

Memory

The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 3504MHz.

Power Consumption

With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance

The GTX 1050 Ti will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 55+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will be faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960

System Suggestions

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a modern CPU like the i5-6500 and 8GB of RAM for minimal system bottleneck.

4 GB for a 128 bit card seems too much. Is that a gimmick to lure customers or is the card legitimately able to handle 4 full gigabytes of VRAM ?

No, Its not a gimmick. My GTX 1050 Ti's Vram is at 2.5/4 GB while playing fortnite on maximum settings. This Gpu is capable of filling the entire 4 GB Vram.
