Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

A mid to low level graphics card, the GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB is found in budget machines nowadays, struggling to meet AAA system requirements.

GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

This PC hardware performance game review for the GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB graphics card, when running 2023 more popular games, lets us see what type of FPS this card gets when playing at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions and ultra settings. The GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 445 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB can run Dying Light 2 at 1080p and saw it return playable frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 70 FPS, Medium: 55 FPS, High: 37 FPS and Ultra: 27 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Star Citizen is predicted to return a reasonable 54 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

People are turning their increasingly more powerful graphics cards to the popular 1440p screen size so we tested the GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB to see how it performs on 1440p. First off we have looked at Dying Light 2 where it was weak. The frame rates it scored for the game presets were - Low: 53 FPS, Medium: 42 FPS, High: 28 FPS and Ultra: 20 FPS. We added Star Citizen to our research and predict it will be playable with a 41 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then tested Forza Horizon 5 which got 24 FPS at Ultra 1440p. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB, this is a suitable graphics card for this larger screen res. In some cases we might expect some graphics option tweaks down from Ultra to High to help improve FPS stability when gaming at 1440p.

GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB is an overclocked variant of the current entry level Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture. It comes with locked memory of 3GB instead of the full 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-300-A1 which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 9 SM activated, offering 1152 Shader Processing Units (the GTX 1060 6GB version offers 1280 SPU), 72 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1594MHz and goes up to 1809MHz, when Boost mode is activated.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1060 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 3GB is a high performance GPU. This grpahics card will run most triple A games at 1440p on medium/high graphics with frames per second of 60+. At 1080p screen resolution this card will run the same games at very high graphic settings at 60+fps. The 3GB memory reduction that will hamper the high quality game textures this card can deliver, making it less future proof as more GPU memory dependent games are released.
