10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

A mid to low level graphics card, the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB is found in budget machines nowadays, struggling to meet AAA system requirements.

GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2023. This graphics hardware can run 441 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB graphics card is returning a playable performance on Dying Light 2 at 1080p of 26 frames per second at Ultra graphics settings. Another popular title that is good to benchmark graphics cards against is Battlefield 2042 which we saw got weak frame rates of 14 FPS. A third game we can look at on Ultra at 1080p is the popular Days Gone, which was getting 47 FPS under tests.

With PC gamers looking for larger screen sizes like 1440p we tested the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB by playing Dying Light 2 which yielded a weak performance. Its FPS results for the graphics settings are as follows - L: 51FPS, M: 40FPS, H: 27FPS, U: 19FPS. Another popular game we tested with this card was Battlefield 2042 and that was weak. This graphics card delivered 10 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Another popular title was Days Gone which gets playable results with a 36FPS on Ultra 1440p. Getting popular modern games to run at 1440p on the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB is going to struggle to keep a solid FPS, but a modern game could have a few options tweaked to get it playable at this res but on low graphics settings.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB.

GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB is an Overclocked variant of the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB which is currently the entry level Nvidia GTX 1000 performance graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture. It comes with locked memory of 3GB instead of the full 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-300-A1 which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 9 SM activated, offering 1152 Shader Processing Units (the GTX 1060 6GB version offers 1280 SPU), 72 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1569MHz and goes up to 1784MHz, when Boost mode is activated.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2052MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 8-pin connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB is a high performance graphics card that will run 2016's AAA games producing 60+ frames per second on most games at very high settings and a 1080p screen resolution. At 1440p this card can maintain the 60+ fps with a slight graphical adjustment down to high/medium settings. The 3GB memory reduction will hamper the high quality game textures this card can deliver, making it less future proof as more GPU memory hungry games are released.
