How well can the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB graphics card is considered budget with poor modern game performance when playing anything more demanding than indie game requirements.

GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB is capable of DirectX 12 gaming requirements.

Here is a performance review on how capable the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB is at running the more popular games of 2023. Specifically looking at this PC hardware’s ability to get suitable frames per second to play on Ultra game settings and what FPS it might get on 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen res. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 387 games in the list.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing Back 4 Blood getting 52 FPS with the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB, Days Gone getting 45 FPS and Far Cry 6 getting 22 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

We move on to 1440p, and tested Back 4 Blood which delivered playable FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 104 FPS, Medium: 82 FPS, High: 55 FPS and Ultra: 39 FPS. Next we have Days Gone running on GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB which gets L: 91FPS, M: 71FPS, H: 48FPS, U: 34FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Far Cry 6 gets L: 44FPS, M: 35FPS, H: 23FPS, U: 17FPS at 1440p. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB, this is a perfectly suitable selection of hardware for theis larger screen size. If a game at 1440p struggles a bit or experiences a frame drop then you can tweak settings in game to help get it stable. This might mean lowering it to medium or low in some specific options.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB.

GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB a compact variant of the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB which is currently the entry level Nvidia GTX 1000 performance graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture. It comes with locked memory of 3GB instead of the full 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-300-A1 which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 9 SM activated, offering 1152 Shader Processing Units (the GTX 1060 6GB version offers 1280 SPU), 72 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1506MHz and goes up to 1709MHz, when Boost mode is activated.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D Compact 3GB is capable of running most 2016 AAA games on 1080p screen resolution at very high graphics producing 60+ frames per second. At 1440p this card will produce 60+ fps on the same games with the graphic settings adjusted down to high/medium. The 3GB memory reduction that will hamper the high quality game textures that this card can deliver, making it less future proof as more GPU memory hungry games are released.
