How well can the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

Based on current gaming requirements the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB is considered one of the weakest cards and wont meet modern AAA game specs.

DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB get on latest AAA 2023 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. This graphics hardware can run 164 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Battlefield 2042 and saw it deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 0 FPS, Medium: 0 FPS, High: 0 FPS and Ultra: 0 FPS. We proceeded to look at Days Gone to see how that compared and saw that it returned a weak 17 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

With PC gamers looking for larger screen sizes like 1440p we tested the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB by playing Battlefield 2042 which yielded a weak performance. Its FPS results for the graphics settings are as follows - L: 0FPS, M: 0FPS, H: 0FPS, U: 0FPS. Another popular game we tested with this card was Days Gone and that was weak. This graphics card delivered 13 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Another popular title was Forza Horizon 5 which gets weak results with a 0FPS on Ultra 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB is going to struggle at this higher gaming resolution.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB in your PC? We think this GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB has around 6-12 months until an upgrade should be considered.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB? Upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB which is 72% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 716 games from the most demanding games today. Alternatively a good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5300. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 38% better and can meet 300 of their recommended requirements.

GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
This is MSI's no frills, yet slightly overclocked version of the GTX 1050, Nvidia's lower end graphics card designed to compete against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the RX 460 or RX 470. This card features an overclocked boost function and a single fan cooling system, the number of fans being the only difference between it and it's OC GT cousin.

Architecture
The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and Introduces support for Second Gen HBM.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GP107-400 which has 5 SM activated and thus 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1404MHz and goes up to 1518MHz with the Boost Clock.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 3504MHz which is outstanding.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
This card will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect it to deliver around 54+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
This card will be ever so slightly faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1050 MSI OC 2GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080 so we recommend 1600x900 in order to get the most out of your graphical settings. We recommend a High-End Processor such as the i5-6500 and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
