How well can the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB is a very low performing piece of gaming hardware and can probably only run indie system requirements.

DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB get on latest AAA 2023 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. 235 games can be played by this graphics card of the 1000 most demanding games being played by PC gamers today.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB can run Forza Horizon 5 at 1080p and saw it return weak frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 12 FPS, Medium: 9 FPS, High: 6 FPS and Ultra: 5 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Back 4 Blood returns a playable 35 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Forza Horizon 5 to see how the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB dealt with it. It scored up a weak series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 9 FPS, Medium: 7 FPS, High: 5 FPS and Ultra: 3 FPS. Next we looked at Back 4 Blood which was playable with a 27 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Days Gone that got an Ultra 1440p FPS of 20. 1440p gaming on the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB is not ideal and its more advisable to run modern games at 1080p resolution. But if you really want to play games at 1440p then you will likely have to make some graphical adjustments to improve game FPS stability.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB? A good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 51% better and can meet 716 of their recommended requirements. Alternatively upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5300 which is 21% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 300 games from the most demanding games today.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gigabyte OC 4GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC is one of Gigabyte's versions of Nvidia's lower end graphics card. It is competing against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the newer RX 470. This card features a Windforce 2X cooling system and an overclocked core speed.

Architecture
The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and introduces support for second gen HBM.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed GP107-400 which has 6 SM activated and 768 Shader Processing Units, 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1341MHz and goes up to 1455MHz when the Boost Clock is triggered in OC mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 3504MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
The GTX 1050 Ti OC will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 57+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will be faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960

System Suggestions
Gigabyte's GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a modern CPU like the i5-6500 and 8GB of RAM for minimal system bottleneck.
