AMD Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

A mid to low level graphics card, the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB is found in budget machines nowadays, struggling to meet AAA system requirements.

All games with system requirements of DirectX 12 or lower are met by this card.

Lets look at the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB game performance guide for some of the biggest games played in 2022. In particular we will see how well this graphics card runs on Ultra settings on 1080p resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. The Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 447 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

Looking at some of the modern popular games people are playing today the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB is running Battlefield 2042 and delivering weak performances on 1080p Ultra, getting 14 frames per second. Comparing this to Days Gone which is getting reasonable results, where it averages 51 FPS. Another popular game we looked at is Resident Evil 8, which is running at 23 frames per second.

People are turning their increasingly more powerful graphics cards to the popular 1440p screen size so we tested the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB to see how it performs on 1440p. First off we have looked at Battlefield 2042 where it was weak. The frame rates it scored for the game presets were - Low: 28 FPS, Medium: 22 FPS, High: 15 FPS and Ultra: 11 FPS. We added Days Gone to our tests and saw it was playable with a 39 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then tested Resident Evil 8 which got 17 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Running games at 1440p with a Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB is not a first choice gaming resolution. While this graphics card would likely be more suited to 1080p gaming, you may be able to make some graphical tweaks in the game options to improve your stability at 1440p.

How many years will the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB in your PC? This Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB card has 12 to 18 months of latest AAA game play left in it before upgrading should be considered

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB.

Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
First off we should point out that this is not the new AMD Vega graphics card line. The new AMD Radeon RX 500 series are an uprated version of the RX 400 series that they are replacing. This Sapphire RX 580 Pulse graphics card is one of the two more powerful models from the new AMD Radeon RX 500 Series.

This RX 580 is the 4GB version and there is also the higher VRAM version, RX580 8GB available.

Architecture
It equips a GPU codenamed Polaris 20 XTX, which has 2304 shader processing units, 144 TMUs and 32 ROPs.

GPU
The Radeon RX 580 Sapphire Pulse 4GB central processing unit runs at 1257MHz and goes up to a top 1366MHz when in boost and turbo mode with the reference RX 580 card's boost is 1340MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock operates at 1750MHz.

Power Consumption
The RX 580 4GB has a power TDP requirement of 150W. This means it will require at least a 500W PSU with one dedicated 8-pin connector.

Performance
Early benchmarks indicate that the AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB will be similar in performance to the Nvidia GTX 1060 in terms of gaming performance. This puts the RX 580 4GB about 8% faster than the model it replaced, the AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB. Comparing the RX 580 to RX 570 we see 1440p frame rates around 8-15% better with the RX580 version

System Suggestions
The new Sapphire RX 580 Pulse 4GB released on the 18th April 2017 and is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a high-end processor, like the new Ryzen R5 and at least 8GB of RAM for optimal gaming performance.
