How well can the GeForce GTX 2050 run games
22 May 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The GeForce GTX 2050 GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Here is a performance review on how capable the GeForce GTX 2050 is at running the more popular games of 2020. Specifically looking at this PC hardware’s ability to get suitable frames per second to play on Ultra game settings and what FPS it might get on 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen res. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 119 games in todays list.

The 1080p FPS on Ultra for the GeForce GTX 2050 shows us that Valorant is predicted to get a strong result of 355 FPS, and then we are seeing Crucible returning a weak 24 FPS while another game on our list is the Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord which is getting 31 frames per second at Ultra 1080p.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce GTX 2050 performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Crucible and saw it deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 48 FPS, Medium: 38 FPS, High: 26 FPS and Ultra: 18 FPS. We then checked the performance on Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord to see if that runs well. It was weak with a 24 FPS at Ultra 1440p. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 2050, this is more than capable at running this screen resolution. 1440p Ultra across almost all modern games is going to be fairly standard with this GPU. We would consider moving this hardware up to 4K screen resolutions for PC gaming today.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 2050 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 2050 in your PC? Its time to start researching your next graphics card upgrade as the GeForce GTX 2050 is failing to meet modern day gaming system requirements. A gpu AAA lifespan of around 6-12 months.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 2050? Upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB which is 93% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 866 games from the most demanding games today. Alternatively if you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 2050 then a good choice would be RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB as this is better than 707 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 51% better performance as well.

GeForce GTX 2050 Game Requirement Analysis

The GeForce GTX 2050 is an expect Nvidia low-end graphics card due to launch in 2019. The GTX 2050 is designed to compete against AMD's more affordable gaming cards such as the RX 550 and the RX 560, and expected to replace the outgoing GTX 1050.

The Turing Architecture aims for 30-50% as much performance as the previous-gen Turing Architecture.

It equips a GPU Codenamed Turing T107-400 which has [TBA] SM activated and thus [TBA] Shader Processing Units, [TBA] TMUs and [TBA] ROPs. The central unit runs at [TBA]MHz and goes up to [TBA]MHz with the Boost Clock.

The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 3504MHz.

Power Consumption

With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

The GTX 2050 will enable low to mid-level graphics performance on modern AAA 2018 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 50+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will have slightly faster performance than the GTX 1050 Ti.

System Suggestions

The GeForce GTX 2050 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080, so our recommendation would be to use 1600x900 in order to get the most out of your settings. We recommend a high-end processor such as the i5-7500 and 8GB of RAM for optimal performance.
