Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

Gamers upgrading will be considering the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 graphics card as a serious price to performance entry point. This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2023. The GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 802 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 can run Days Gone at 1080p and saw it return good frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 172 FPS, Medium: 135 FPS, High: 91 FPS and Ultra: 65 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Far Cry 6 returns a reasonable 45 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 at 1440p with Days Gone, which got a reasonable set of FPS results. These were, Low: 131 FPS, Medium: 103 FPS, High: 69 FPS and Ultra: 50 FPS. We then checked out Far Cry 6 which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 91FPS, M: 71FPS, H: 48FPS, U: 34FPS. And another popular game was Dying Light 2 that returned L: 93FPS, M: 73FPS, H: 49FPS, U: 35FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 is a solid choice of hardware for increased screen resolution gaming. We can see this graphics card is capable of delivering reliable frame rates at Ultra and certainly High graphics settings at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 in your PC? This gpu has around 2+ years of running AAA recommended system requirements before any upgrades should be considered.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6.

GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 Game Requirement Analysis

Overview GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 is a mid-range GeForce 20 Series graphics card and considered a great price to performance graphics card based on the Turing architecture. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. The GeForce RTX 2060 does support real-time ray-tracing and excels at 1080p screen resolution. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU106 which has 1920 Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 47 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1365 MHz and goes up to 1680 MHz, in Boost mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory running through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz, or 14GHz effective. The limited video memory available means the RTX 2060 3GB will struggle at 1440p resolution. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 150W, it requires at least a 450W PSU with an 8-pin power connector. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920 x 1080. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
