Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

Gamers upgrading will be considering the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 graphics card as a serious price to performance entry point. This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

This PC hardware performance game review for the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 graphics card, when running 2023 more popular games, lets us see what type of FPS this card gets when playing at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions and ultra settings. In terms of performance against the most demanding games today this graphics card can play 802 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

Running at 1080p this card gets a reasonable frame rate from Dying Light 2 with 46 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Forza Horizon 5 which returns a reasonable 50 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Far Cry 6 which we saw getting a reasonable 45 FPS.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 at 1440p with Dying Light 2, which got a playable set of FPS results. These were, Low: 92 FPS, Medium: 72 FPS, High: 49 FPS and Ultra: 35 FPS. We then checked out Forza Horizon 5 which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 100FPS, M: 79FPS, H: 53FPS, U: 38FPS. And another popular game was Far Cry 6 that returned L: 90FPS, M: 71FPS, H: 48FPS, U: 34FPS at 1440p. In summary we feel the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 running at 1440p is a suitable graphics card for this larger screen res. In some cases we might expect some graphics option tweaks down from Ultra to High to help improve FPS stability when gaming at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5.

GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 Game Requirement Analysis

Overview GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 is a mid-range GeForce 20 Series graphics card and considered a great price to performance graphics card based on the Turing architecture. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. The GeForce RTX 2060 does support real-time ray-tracing and excels at 1080p screen resolution. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU106 which has 1920 Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 47 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1365 MHz and goes up to 1680 MHz, in Boost mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of slower GDDR5 memory compared to the GDDR6 model, running through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz, or 14GHz effective. The limited video memory available means the RTX 2060 3GB will struggle at 1440p resolution. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 150W, it requires at least a 450W PSU with an 8-pin power connector. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920 x 1080. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
