How well can the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile run games
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2023. The GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 763 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Dying Light 2 and saw it deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 104 FPS, Medium: 82 FPS, High: 55 FPS and Ultra: 40 FPS. We proceeded to look at Grand Theft Auto VI to see how that compared and predict that it will return a playable 40 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

We move on to 1440p, and tested Dying Light 2 which delivered playable FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 80 FPS, Medium: 63 FPS, High: 42 FPS and Ultra: 30 FPS. Next we have Grand Theft Auto VI running on GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile which is predicted to get L: 80FPS, M: 63FPS, H: 42FPS, U: 30FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Battlefield 2042 gets L: 59FPS, M: 47FPS, H: 32FPS, U: 23FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile is a perfectly suitable selection of hardware for theis larger screen size. If a game at 1440p struggles a bit or experiences a frame drop then you can tweak settings in game to help get it stable. This might mean lowering it to medium or low in some specific options.

How many years will the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile.

GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile Game Requirement Analysis

Overview GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile is a mid-range GeForce 20 Series graphics card for laptops based on the Turing GPU architecture. It is considered a great price to performance graphics card. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. The GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile supports real-time ray-tracing and excels at 1080p screen resolution. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU106 which has 1920 Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 47 ROPs. The central unit runs at 960 MHz and goes up to 1200 MHz in Boost mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz, or 14GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 80-90W the RTX 2060 Mobile is averagely resource-intensive and will fairly significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2060 6GB Mobile is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
