Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This computer hardware provides top end graphics. The GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB will easily meet recommended system requirements of games released today. This is a strong benchmarker on modern games and can often return excellent frame rates at high and ultra 1080p. But the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB can also run 1440p pc system requirements.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2022. This graphics hardware can run 975 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

The 1080p FPS on Ultra for the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB shows us that Grand Theft Auto VI is predicted to get a reasonable result of 55 FPS, and then we are seeing Back 4 Blood returning a strong 87 FPS while another game on our list is the Battlefield 2042 which is getting 47 frames per second at Ultra 1080p.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we ran Back 4 Blood on the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB to see that it got a good set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra results at 1440p - L: 175FPS, M: 138FPS, H: 93FPS, U: 66FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Battlefield 2042 which seemed playable in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 36 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Grand Theft Auto VI where its predicted Ultra 1440p Frame rates were playable at 42 FPS. 1440p gaming on the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB is certainly capable of running larger monitor gaming at Ultra or High graphics settings.

How many years will the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for 2 to 3 years of meeting top end game system requirements

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB.

GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview The GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB is a High-End Graphics Card based on the 12nm Turing Architecture and is considered a great 1440p video card. This is a dual-slot graphics card triple fan thermal design with TORX 2.0 fans for improved airflow and optimised heat dissipation. This card has good overclocking potential. Architecture It equips a cut-down Turing GPU Codenamed TU106, more specifically the TU106-400A-A1 variant which means factory overclocks are permitted. This is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 16 SM activated, offering 2304 CUDA Shader Processing Units, 144 TMUs, and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing (RTX) technology. It is equipped with 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes and 32 RT Cores for ray-tracing. GPU The central unit runs at 1410 MHz and goes up to 1620 MHz in Boost Mode, the same as the reference model. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of Second Gen GDDR6 through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Total memory bandwidth is 448GB/s. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 175W, it requires at least a 550W PSU with one available 8-pin and one 6-pin power connector. Performance The GeForce RTX 2070 offers performance in between the GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, albeit also boasting ray-tracing and DLSS support. System Suggestions The GeForce RTX 2070 MSI Duke 8GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a high-end processor and 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
