Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

Gamers upgrading will be considering the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB graphics card as a serious price to performance entry point. This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2023. In particular we focus on how well the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 800 games in the list.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB can run FIFA 22 at 1080p and saw it return strong frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 292 FPS, Medium: 230 FPS, High: 155 FPS and Ultra: 111 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Star Citizen is predicted to return a good 72 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We discovered the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB ran FIFA 22 to a strong performance level. Results across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 222 FPS, Medium: 175 FPS, High: 118 FPS and Ultra: 84 FPS. Another game researched was Star Citizen with predictions of L: 145FPS, M: 114FPS, H: 77FPS, U: 55FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Far Cry 6, which returned L: 88FPS, M: 69FPS, H: 46FPS, U: 33FPS at 1440p. 1440p gaming on the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB is probably one of the better high resolution gaming options on the graphics card market. You can consider pushing most games up to 4K with this gpu and Ultra 1440p is going to be a regular occurrence for gaming today.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for 2 to 3 years of meeting top end game system requirements

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB.

GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB is a mid-range GeForce 16 Series graphics card and considered a great price to performance 1080p graphics card based on the Turing architecture. This is a dual slot graphics card with a dual-fan cooling solution. This video card has poor overclocking potential. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. Unlike the RTX series, the GTX series does not support real-time ray-tracing. However, a lower quality version of DXR ray-tracing will be enabled in a future software update. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU116, more specifically TU116-400-A1, which has 1536 Shader Processing Units, 96 TMUs, 48 ROPs, and 24 SMs. The central unit runs at 1500 MHz and goes up to 1770 MHz in Boost mode, the same as the reference model. Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz, or 12GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 450W PSU with an 8-pin power connector. System Suggestions GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Colorful 6GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440, but is ideally suited for 1080p gaming. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
