How well can the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Here is a performance review on how capable the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB is at running the more popular games of 2023. Specifically looking at this PC hardware’s ability to get suitable frames per second to play on Ultra game settings and what FPS it might get on 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen res. The GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 739 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

Looking at some of the modern popular games people are playing today the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB is running Dying Light 2 and delivering playable performances on 1080p Ultra, getting 35 frames per second. Comparing this to Star Citizen which is predicted to get good results, where it averages 61 FPS. Another popular game we looked at is Resident Evil 8, which is running at 40 frames per second.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Dying Light 2 and saw it deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 70 FPS, Medium: 56 FPS, High: 37 FPS and Ultra: 27 FPS. We then checked the performance on Star Citizen to predict if that will run well. It is predicted to be reasonable with a 47 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB is a suitable graphics card for this larger screen res. In some cases we might expect some graphics option tweaks down from Ultra to High to help improve FPS stability when gaming at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB in your PC? Upgrade time for this GPU is currently placed at 2 years

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB.

GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB is an entry to mid-level Nvidia graphics card which launched on March 14th, 2019. The GeForce GTX 1660 is designed to compete against AMD's more affordable gaming cards such as the RX 570 and the RX 580, and replaces the outgoing GTX 1060. The GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB is a dual-slot mini-ITX graphics card with single-fan wing-blade cooling, IP5X dust resistance, and long-life dual ball fan bearings. Its small size makes this GPU a good choice for small form factor (SFF) PC builds. This graphics card has below average overclocking potential.

Architecture
The Turing GPU architecture aims for 30-50% as much performance as the previous-gen Pascal Architecture.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Turing TU116, more specifically the TU166-300-A1, which has 22 SM activated and thus 1408 Shader Processing Units, 88 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1530 MHz and goes up to 1830 MHz with the Boost Clock, an overclock of 3% compared to the reference model.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5 through a 192-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 2001MHz, or 8GHz effective.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, this graphics card requires one 8-pin power connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1660 will enable medium to high graphics performance on modern AAA 2018 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 50+ FPS on High graphics settings at 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will have slightly faster performance than the GTX 1060.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1660 Asus Phoenix OC 6GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440, so our recommendation would be to use 1920x1080 in order to get the most out of your settings. We recommend a high-end processor such as the i5-8500 and 12GB of RAM for optimal performance.
