How well can the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Lets look at the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB game performance guide for some of the biggest games played in 2021. In particular we will see how well this graphics card runs on Ultra settings on 1080p resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. This card runs recommended graphics requirements of 767 games from the top 1000 most demanding games being played today.

The GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB graphics card is predicted to return a reasonable performance on Star Citizen at 1080p of 58 frames per second at Ultra graphics settings. Another popular title that is good to benchmark graphics cards against is Battlefield 2042 which we predict will get playable frame rates of 35 FPS. A third game we can look at on Ultra at 1080p is the popular Dying Light 2, which is predicted to get 35 FPS under tests.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we researched the upcoming Star Citizen to predict how the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB would deal with it. Our research revealed a playable series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 116 FPS, Medium: 91 FPS, High: 61 FPS and Ultra: 44 FPS. Next we looked at Battlefield 2042 which we predict will be playable with a 27 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Dying Light 2 that we predict will get an Ultra 1440p FPS of 27. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB we get the impression that it is a perfectly suitable selection of hardware for theis larger screen size. If a game at 1440p struggles a bit or experiences a frame drop then you can tweak settings in game to help get it stable. This might mean lowering it to medium or low in some specific options.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB? If you are thinking of upgrading this graphics card then we would currently suggest the 30 Series GeForce RTX 3050 Ti. This PC hardware upgrade performs 41% better and can run 976 of today’s 1000 most demanding PC games. Alternatively we would suggest getting a R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB, as it can run 967 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today with 34% increased graphics performance.

GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB is an entry to mid-level Nvidia graphics card which launched on March 14th, 2019. The GeForce GTX 1660 is designed to compete against AMD's more affordable gaming cards such as the RX 570 and the RX 580, and replaces the outgoing GTX 1060. The GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB is a 2.75-slot graphics card with single-fan wing-blade cooling, and a plate-punched backplate. Its shortened length makes this GPU a good choice for smaller PC builds. This graphics card has below average overclocking potential.

Architecture
The Turing GPU architecture aims for 30-50% as much performance as the previous-gen Pascal Architecture.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Turing TU116, more specifically the TU166-300-A1, which has 22 SM activated and thus 1408 Shader Processing Units, 88 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1530 MHz and goes up to 1830 MHz with the Boost Clock, providing a small 3% overclock versus the reference model.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5 through a 192-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 2001MHz, or 8GHz effective.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 130W, this graphics card requires one 8-pin power connector and a minimum of a 500W power supply.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1660 will enable medium to high graphics performance on modern AAA 2018 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 50+ FPS on High graphics settings at 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will have slightly faster performance than the GTX 1060.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Gaming 6GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440, so our recommendation would be to use 1920x1080 in order to get the most out of your settings. We recommend a high-end processor such as the i5-8500 and 12GB of RAM for optimal performance.
