Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Game performance for the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB where we look at the bigger games played in 2022. Looking closely at the graphics card frame rate performance on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. This graphics hardware can run 748 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Far Cry 6 and saw it deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 90 FPS, Medium: 71 FPS, High: 48 FPS and Ultra: 34 FPS. We proceeded to look at Resident Evil 8 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a playable 40 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We discovered the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB ran Far Cry 6 to a playable performance level. Results across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 68 FPS, Medium: 54 FPS, High: 36 FPS and Ultra: 26 FPS. Another game tested was Resident Evil 8, L: 81FPS, M: 63FPS, H: 43FPS, U: 31FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Back 4 Blood, which returned L: 124FPS, M: 98FPS, H: 66FPS, U: 47FPS at 1440p. 1440p gaming on the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB is a reasonable choice for most modern games at 1440p, but you may encounter some need to adjust graphics settings down from Ultra to High in some cases to improve gaming stability.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB in your PC? Upgrade time for this GPU is currently placed at 2 years

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB.

GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB is an entry to mid-level Nvidia graphics card which launched on March 14th, 2019. The GeForce GTX 1660 is designed to compete against AMD's more affordable gaming cards such as the RX 570 and the RX 580, and replaces the outgoing GTX 1060. The GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB is a dual-slot graphics card with a dual-fan cooling solution, and a plate-punched backplate. This graphics card has average overclocking potential.

Architecture
The Turing GPU architecture aims for 30-50% as much performance as the previous-gen Pascal Architecture.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Turing TU116, more specifically the TU166-300-A1, which has 22 SM activated and thus 1408 Shader Processing Units, 88 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1530 MHz and goes up to 1845 MHz with the Boost Clock, providing a small 3% overclock versus the reference model.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5 through a 192-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 2001MHz, or 8GHz effective.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 160W, this graphics card requires one 8-pin power connector and a minimum of a 500W power supply.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1660 will enable medium to high graphics performance on modern AAA 2018 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 50+ FPS on High graphics settings at 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will have slightly faster performance than the GTX 1060.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1660 EVGA XC Ultra Gaming 6GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440, so our recommendation would be to use 1920x1080 in order to get the most out of your settings. We recommend a high-end processor such as the i5-8500 and 12GB of RAM for optimal performance.
