Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

How well will the GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB run 2021 games? We will take a look at the biggest releases and frames per second analysis on Ultra graphics settings. The GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 764 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

Looking at some of the modern popular games people are playing today the GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB is running Days Gone and delivering reasonable performances on 1080p Ultra, getting 54 frames per second. Comparing this to Dying Light 2 which is predicted to get playable results, where it averages 35 FPS. Another popular game we looked at is Back 4 Blood, which is predicted to run at 61 frames per second.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Days Gone to see how the GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB dealt with it. It scored up a playable series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 108 FPS, Medium: 85 FPS, High: 57 FPS and Ultra: 41 FPS. Next we looked at Dying Light 2 which we predict will be playable with a 26 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Back 4 Blood that we predict will get an Ultra 1440p FPS of 46. 1440p gaming on the GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB is a reasonable performance fit for this resolution. Some of the more resource intensive games may well need a few graphical tweak to get the most out of the graphics card at this increased resolution.

GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB is an entry to mid-level Nvidia graphics card which launched on March 14th, 2019. The GeForce GTX 1660 is designed to compete against AMD's more affordable gaming cards such as the RX 570 and the RX 580, and replaces the outgoing GTX 1060. The GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB is a dual-slot graphics card with a single-fan blower cooling solution. This graphics card has poor overclocking potential.

Architecture
The Turing GPU architecture aims for 30-50% as much performance as the previous-gen Pascal Architecture.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Turing TU116, more specifically the TU166-300-A1, which has 22 SM activated and thus 1408 Shader Processing Units, 88 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1530 MHz and goes up to 1785 MHz with the Boost Clock, the same as the reference model.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5 through a 192-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 2001MHz, or 8GHz effective.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, this graphics card requires one 8-pin power connector and a minimum of a 450W power supply.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1660 will enable medium to high graphics performance on modern AAA 2018 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 50+ FPS on High graphics settings at 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will have slightly faster performance than the GTX 1060.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1660 Galax Blower 6GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440, so our recommendation would be to use 1920x1080 in order to get the most out of your settings. We recommend a high-end processor such as the i5-8500 and 12GB of RAM for optimal performance.
