How well can the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Game performance for the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB where we look at the bigger games played in 2022. Looking closely at the graphics card frame rate performance on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. In terms of performance against the most demanding games today this graphics card can play 756 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Dying Light 2 and predict it will deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 92 FPS, Medium: 73 FPS, High: 49 FPS and Ultra: 35 FPS. We proceeded to look at Far Cry 6 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a playable 34 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB at 1440p and researched how Dying Light 2 might perform on it leading us to predict a playable set of FPS results. These were, Low: 70 FPS, Medium: 56 FPS, High: 37 FPS and Ultra: 27 FPS. We then checked out Far Cry 6 which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 67FPS, M: 53FPS, H: 36FPS, U: 26FPS. And another popular game was Resident Evil 8 that returned L: 81FPS, M: 63FPS, H: 43FPS, U: 31FPS at 1440p. In summary we feel the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB running at 1440p is a perfectly suitable selection of hardware for theis larger screen size. If a game at 1440p struggles a bit or experiences a frame drop then you can tweak settings in game to help get it stable. This might mean lowering it to medium or low in some specific options.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB in your PC? Upgrade time for this GPU is currently placed at 2 years

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB then a good choice would be 30 Series GeForce RTX 3050 Ti as this is better than 972 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 41% better performance as well. Alternatively a good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB. GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB is an entry to mid-level Nvidia graphics card which launched on March 14th, 2019. The GeForce GTX 1660 is designed to compete against AMD's more affordable gaming cards such as the RX 570 and the RX 580, and replaces the outgoing GTX 1060. The GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB is a dual-slot graphics card with a dual-fan Windforce 2X cooling solution, heat pipe direct touch GPU, and a protective back plate. This graphics card has average overclocking potential.

Architecture
The Turing GPU architecture aims for 30-50% as much performance as the previous-gen Pascal Architecture.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Turing TU116, more specifically the TU166-300-A1, which has 22 SM activated and thus 1408 Shader Processing Units, 88 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1530 MHz and goes up to 1830 MHz with the Boost Clock, providing a small 3% overclock versus the reference model.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5 through a 192-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 2001MHz, or 8GHz effective.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 150W, this graphics card requires one 8-pin power connector and a minimum of a 450W power supply.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1660 will enable medium to high graphics performance on modern AAA 2018 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 50+ FPS on High graphics settings at 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will have slightly faster performance than the GTX 1060.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1660 Gigabyte OC 6GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440, so our recommendation would be to use 1920x1080 in order to get the most out of your settings. We recommend a high-end processor such as the i5-8500 and 12GB of RAM for optimal performance.
