How well can the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB get on latest AAA 2021 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 765 games in the list.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We predict that Star Citizen will get 57 FPS with the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB, Days Gone getting 54 FPS and Dying Light 2 predicted to get 35 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Star Citizen and predict it will deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 115 FPS, Medium: 90 FPS, High: 61 FPS and Ultra: 43 FPS. We then checked the performance on Days Gone to see if that runs well. It was playable with a 41 FPS at Ultra 1440p. 1440p gaming on the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB is a perfectly suitable selection of hardware for theis larger screen size. If a game at 1440p struggles a bit or experiences a frame drop then you can tweak settings in game to help get it stable. This might mean lowering it to medium or low in some specific options.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for 2 to 3 years of meeting top end game system requirements

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB? Upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the 30 Series GeForce RTX 3050 Ti which is 42% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 976 games from the most demanding games today. Alternatively a good choice when looking to upgrade the GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB would be the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB which meets 967 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 35% better performance.

GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB Game Requirement Analysis

The GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB is an entry to mid-level Nvidia graphics card which launched on March 14th, 2019. The GeForce GTX 1660 is designed to compete against AMD's more affordable gaming cards such as the RX 570 and the RX 580, and replaces the outgoing GTX 1060. The GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB is a dual-slot graphics card with a dual-fan Twin X2 cooling solution, heat pipe direct touch GPU, and is certified VR-Ready. This graphics card has average overclocking potential.

The Turing GPU architecture aims for 30-50% as much performance as the previous-gen Pascal Architecture.

It equips a GPU codenamed Turing TU116, more specifically the TU166-300-A1, which has 22 SM activated and thus 1408 Shader Processing Units, 88 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1530 MHz and goes up to 1785 MHz with the Boost Clock, the same speed as the reference model.

The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5 through a 192-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 2001MHz, or 8GHz effective.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, this graphics card requires one 8-pin power connector and a minimum of a 500W power supply.

The GeForce GTX 1660 will enable medium to high graphics performance on modern AAA 2018 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 50+ FPS on High graphics settings at 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will have slightly faster performance than the GTX 1060.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1660 Inno3D Twin X2 6GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440, so our recommendation would be to use 1920x1080 in order to get the most out of your settings. We recommend a high-end processor such as the i5-8500 and 12GB of RAM for optimal performance.
