How well can the GeForce GTX 590 run games
5 Jun 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The GeForce GTX 590 GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games. GeForce GTX 590 is capable of DirectX 11 gaming requirements.

How well will the GeForce GTX 590 run 2020 games? We will take a look at the biggest releases and frames per second analysis on Ultra graphics settings. The GeForce GTX 590 can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 119 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

The GeForce GTX 590 graphics card is predicted to return a reasonable performance on Total War Saga: Troy at 1080p of 52 frames per second at Ultra graphics settings. Another popular title that is good to benchmark graphics cards against is Microsoft Flight Simulator which we predict will get playable frame rates of 34 FPS. A third game we can look at on Ultra at 1080p is the popular Call of Duty Warzone, which was getting 21 FPS under tests.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we researched the upcoming Total War Saga: Troy to predict how the GeForce GTX 590 would deal with it. Our research revealed a playable series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 104 FPS, Medium: 82 FPS, High: 55 FPS and Ultra: 39 FPS. Next we looked at Microsoft Flight Simulator which we predict will be playable with a 26 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Call of Duty Warzone that got an Ultra 1440p FPS of 16. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce GTX 590 we get the impression that it is a reasonable choice for most modern games at 1440p, but you may encounter some need to adjust graphics settings down from Ultra to High in some cases to improve gaming stability.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 590 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 590 in your PC? There is around 6-12 months of top end gaming left in this card, at which point its graphics card replacement time, assuming the GeForce GTX 590 is part of your PC gaming machine.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 590? A suitable upgrade choice for the GeForce GTX 590 is the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, which is 89% more powerful and can run 866 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements. Alternatively we would suggest getting a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, as it can run 703 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today with 48% increased graphics performance.

GeForce GTX 590 Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 590 is a dual graphics solution that consists of two GeForce GTX 580.
As usual and a hindrance of dual-GPU graphics cards, the clock frequencies are reduced, when compared to a solution of GeForce GTX 580 in SLI. However, thanks to great driver support, its performance is comparable to the SLI solution. GeForce GTX 590 also consumes less energy.
This GPU is capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings. It needs to be paired with a powerful Quad-Core, such as 2600K. However, performance may hinder at extreme resolutions (2560x1600 or higher) with upcoming extremely demanding games, in 2013 (e.g. Crysis 3).
Upgrading from this GPU to anything less than a solution of GeForce GTX 690 SLI or something similar fast is useless and not worth it.
