How well can the GeForce GTX 590 run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 590
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 590 is a very low performing piece of gaming hardware and can probably only run indie system requirements.

GeForce GTX 590 is capable of DirectX 11 gaming requirements.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 590 get on latest AAA 2023 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. The GeForce GTX 590 can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 232 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 590 performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Resident Evil 8 and saw it deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 9 FPS, Medium: 7 FPS, High: 5 FPS and Ultra: 4 FPS. We proceeded to look at Battlefield 2042 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a weak 0 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce GTX 590 performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Resident Evil 8 and saw it deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 7 FPS, Medium: 6 FPS, High: 4 FPS and Ultra: 3 FPS. We then checked the performance on Battlefield 2042 to see if that runs well. It was weak with a 0 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce GTX 590 we get the impression that it is not going to be able to keep stable frame rates at all times at Ultra 1440p on modern games.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 590 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 590 in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

GeForce GTX 590 Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 590 is a dual graphics solution that consists of two GeForce GTX 580.
As usual and a hindrance of dual-GPU graphics cards, the clock frequencies are reduced, when compared to a solution of GeForce GTX 580 in SLI. However, thanks to great driver support, its performance is comparable to the SLI solution. GeForce GTX 590 also consumes less energy.
This GPU is capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings. It needs to be paired with a powerful Quad-Core, such as 2600K. However, performance may hinder at extreme resolutions (2560x1600 or higher) with upcoming extremely demanding games, in 2013 (e.g. Crysis 3).
Upgrading from this GPU to anything less than a solution of GeForce GTX 690 SLI or something similar fast is useless and not worth it.
