14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

The Radeon RX 5500M 8GB is a high performing piece of gaming hardware, still confidently featuring in PC gamer computers. DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

Here is a performance review on how capable the Radeon RX 5500M 8GB is at running the more popular games of 2019. Specifically looking at this PC hardware’s ability to get suitable frames per second to play on Ultra game settings and what FPS it might get on 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen res. In terms of performance against the most demanding games today this graphics card can play 606 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the Radeon RX 5500M 8GB can run Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at 1080p and saw it return reasonable frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 127 FPS, Medium: 100 FPS, High: 67 FPS and Ultra: 48 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Red Dead Redemption 2 returns a reasonable 48 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

People are turning their increasingly more powerful graphics cards to the popular 1440p screen size so we tested the Radeon RX 5500M 8GB to see how it performs on 1440p. First off we have looked at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare where it was playable. The frame rates it scored for the game presets were - Low: 97 FPS, Medium: 76 FPS, High: 51 FPS and Ultra: 37 FPS. We added Red Dead Redemption 2 to our tests and saw it was playable with a 37 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then tested Planet Zoo which got 34 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Getting popular modern games to run at 1440p on the Radeon RX 5500M 8GB is a reasonable choice for most modern games at 1440p, but you may encounter some need to adjust graphics settings down from Ultra to High in some cases to improve gaming stability.
