8GB+ is beneficial for games, especially with next gen PC games coming out this year.

Also could my lack of RAM be making a bottleneck, causing games to slow down after playing for a bit?

In some cases yeah. I have experienced serious slow down when I played DayZ (Arma II mod) with 2GB of RAM (which was OK back then when DayZ was 1st released, just like 4GB now). After upgrading to 4GB, the FPS didn't increase but the load time was significantly reduced, and the stuttering was less noticeable as well.
