How well can the Radeon RX 5950 run games
AMD Radeon RX 5950
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This computer hardware provides top end graphics. The Radeon RX 5950 will easily meet recommended system requirements of games released today. This is a strong benchmarker on modern games and can often return excellent frame rates at high and ultra 1080p. But the Radeon RX 5950 can also run 1440p pc system requirements.

All games with system requirements of DirectX 12 or lower are met by this card.

How well will the Radeon RX 5950 run 2023 games? We will take a look at the biggest releases and frames per second analysis on Ultra graphics settings. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 996 games in todays list.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the Radeon RX 5950 performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Forza Horizon 5 and saw it deliver strong frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 211 FPS, Medium: 166 FPS, High: 112 FPS and Ultra: 80 FPS. We proceeded to look at Days Gone to see how that compared and saw that it returned a strong 91 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

We move on to 1440p, and tested Forza Horizon 5 which delivered good FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 161 FPS, Medium: 127 FPS, High: 85 FPS and Ultra: 61 FPS. Next we have Days Gone running on Radeon RX 5950 which gets L: 183FPS, M: 144FPS, H: 97FPS, U: 69FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Back 4 Blood gets L: 161FPS, M: 127FPS, H: 85FPS, U: 61FPS at 1440p. In summary we feel the Radeon RX 5950 running at 1440p is a very good hardware option at these screen sizes. Ultra is easily achieved across almost all games at 1440p and we would suggest an increase of screen size up to 4K for this graphics card.

How many years will the Radeon RX 5950 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 5950 in your PC? This gpu has around 2+ years of running AAA recommended system requirements before any upgrades should be considered.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 5950? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon RX 5950.

Radeon RX 5950 Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The Radeon RX 5950 is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the first (1.0) Revision of the RDNA 2 Architecture. These specs are yet to be confirmed.

Architecture
The Big Navi 10 XL GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Big Navi 10 XL GPU features 40 Compute Units activated, offering XX Shader Processing Units, XX TMUs and XX ROPs. The GPU features a XX MHz base clock speed and up to XX MHz with boost clock, making it an estimated XX% faster than a Radeon RX Vega 64. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 2080.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at XX MHz, rising to XX MHz with boost clock enabled.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of XX GB/s.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to XXGB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, XXGB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 225W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with one available 8+6-pin connector.

Performance
AMD Radeon RX 5950 competes with GeForce RTX 2070 8GB, which is available for $599.
Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 5950 performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 2070.
System Suggestions
AMD Radeon RX 5950 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
