How well can the Radeon RX 5950 XT run games
AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This computer hardware provides top end graphics. The Radeon RX 5950 XT will easily meet recommended system requirements of games released today. This is a strong benchmarker on modern games and can often return excellent frame rates at high and ultra 1080p. But the Radeon RX 5950 XT can also run 1440p pc system requirements.

All games with system requirements of DirectX 12 or lower are met by this card.

What FPS performance can the Radeon RX 5950 XT get on latest AAA 2021 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. This graphics hardware can run 997 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing Days Gone getting 93 FPS with the Radeon RX 5950 XT, Star Citizen predicted to get 101 FPS and Battlefield 2042 predicted to get 54 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Days Gone to see how the Radeon RX 5950 XT dealt with it. It scored up a good series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 187 FPS, Medium: 148 FPS, High: 99 FPS and Ultra: 71 FPS. Next we looked at Star Citizen which we predict will be good with a 77 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Battlefield 2042 that we predict will get an Ultra 1440p FPS of 41. Getting popular modern games to run at 1440p on the Radeon RX 5950 XT is a strong choice at these screen resolutions. With Ultra graphics settings being regularly reached at 1440p gaming its easy to consider bumping up the screen size to 4K for this graphics card.

How many years will the Radeon RX 5950 XT graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 5950 XT in your PC? This gpu has around 2+ years of running AAA recommended system requirements before any upgrades should be considered.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 5950 XT? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon RX 5950 XT.

Radeon RX 5950 XT Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The Radeon RX 5950 XT is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the first (1.0) Revision of the RDNA 2 Architecture. These specs are yet to be confirmed.

Architecture
The Big Navi 10 XL GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Big Navi 10 XL GPU features 40 Compute Units activated, offering XX Shader Processing Units, XX TMUs and XX ROPs. The GPU features a XX MHz base clock speed and up to XX MHz with boost clock, making it an estimated XX% faster than a Radeon RX Vega 64. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 2080.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at XX MHz, rising to XX MHz with boost clock enabled.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of XX GB/s.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to XXGB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, XXGB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 225W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with one available 8+6-pin connector.

Performance
AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT competes with GeForce RTX 2070 8GB, which is available for $599.
Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 2070.
System Suggestions
AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
