How well can the GeForce RTX 3050 run games
14 Oct 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

A true powerhouse, the GeForce RTX 3050 will run even the most demanding game system requirements released today. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Lets look at the GeForce RTX 3050 game performance guide for some of the biggest games played in 2020. In particular we will see how well this graphics card runs on Ultra settings on 1080p resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 973 games in the list.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce RTX 3050 can run Baldurs Gate 3 at 1080p and saw it return good frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 193 FPS, Medium: 152 FPS, High: 102 FPS and Ultra: 73 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Phasmophobia returns a strong 83 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce RTX 3050 at 1440p with Baldurs Gate 3, which got a reasonable set of FPS results. These were, Low: 147 FPS, Medium: 116 FPS, High: 78 FPS and Ultra: 56 FPS. We then checked out Phasmophobia which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 166FPS, M: 131FPS, H: 88FPS, U: 63FPS. And another popular game was Grand Theft Auto VI with predictions of L: 105FPS, M: 82FPS, H: 56FPS, U: 40FPS at 1440p. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce RTX 3050 we get the impression that it is a solid choice of hardware for increased screen resolution gaming. We can see this graphics card is capable of delivering reliable frame rates at Ultra and certainly High graphics settings at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce RTX 3050 in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for 2 to 3 years of meeting top end game system requirements

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce RTX 3050? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce RTX 3050 then a good choice would be 20 Series GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB as this is better than 996 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 26% better performance as well. Alternatively we would suggest getting a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5950 XT, as it can run 996 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today with 21% increased graphics performance.

GeForce RTX 3050 Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce RTX 3050 is an entry level GeForce 30 Series graphics card and considered a great price to performance graphics card based on the Ampere architecture.

Architecture
The Ampere architecture represents a process shrink down to 7nm compared to 12nm Turing. The Ampere architecture provides the world's next consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. The GeForce RTX 3050 does support real-time ray-tracing and excels at 1080p screen resolution.

GPU
It equips an Ampere GPU codenamed GA107 which has 1920 Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 47 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1365 MHz and goes up to 1680 MHz, in Boost mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 80W, it requires at least a 450W PSU with an 8-pin power connector.

System Suggestions
GeForce RTX 3050 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
