How well can the GeForce GT 550M run games
Based on current gaming requirements the GeForce GT 550M is considered one of the weakest cards and wont meet modern AAA game specs.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

This low performing GPU is unable to play any of the most demanding games available today.

How many years will the GeForce GT 550M graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GT 550M in your PC? Its upgrade time for the GeForce GT 550M, assuming you are a modern day gamer.

GeForce GT 550M Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GT 550M is a middle-class Mobile Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture.

Architecture
The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GF108 which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 96 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 740MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 900MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Optimus, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 35W, it is suited for 15" or larger laptops.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance only slightly above a desktop GeForce GT 430.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Core i3 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 550M.

thanx pip…

550 is  a reasonable card..

it plays most games..in 3d ode may be not so..for instance u can play the first assassins creed game in full 3d settings,..with out any problem..but as u go higher not so..i cud only play the brotherhood varient in 800v600 res..

Its great for 3d movies..

would not call it a gaming card..but just  reasonable one..

The 550M is just an Overclocked version of the 540M.. Overclock the 540M and you have a 550M. It is exactly like that…

@CaptainAwesome thanks for the info. personally though, for me it has the be 10% or more increase in performance for me to consider it "better" so to me the 360m is roughly the same as the 550m. :P

Just a heads up the GTS 360m is a better graphics card than this one. This card gets aroun 31 fps on crysis on high while the 360m (with the same settings) gets aroun 38 to 39 fps. I have compared a lot of games between the two and the same results roughly. The 360m is better than the 550m!
