AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This computer hardware provides top end graphics. The Radeon RX 6600 8GB will easily meet recommended system requirements of games released today. This is a strong benchmarker on modern games and can often return excellent frame rates at high and ultra 1080p. But the Radeon RX 6600 8GB can also run 1440p pc system requirements.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the Radeon RX 6600 8GB. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2023. The Radeon RX 6600 8GB can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 983 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the Radeon RX 6600 8GB performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Back 4 Blood and saw it deliver good frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 198 FPS, Medium: 156 FPS, High: 105 FPS and Ultra: 75 FPS. We proceeded to look at Resident Evil 8 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a reasonable 54 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we ran Back 4 Blood on the Radeon RX 6600 8GB to see that it got a reasonable set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra results at 1440p - L: 151FPS, M: 119FPS, H: 80FPS, U: 57FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Resident Evil 8 which seemed playable in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 41 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Far Cry 6 where its Ultra 1440p Frame rates were playable at 43 FPS. 1440p gaming on the Radeon RX 6600 8GB is one of the better graphics cards for gaming at this screen resolution. We will see 1440p Ultra and High settings across almost all current games.

How many years will the Radeon RX 6600 8GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 6600 8GB in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 6600 8GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon RX 6600 8GB.

Radeon RX 6600 8GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The Radeon RX 6600 8GB is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the second (2.0) Revision of the RDNA Architecture.

Architecture
The Navi 23 GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Navi 23 GPU features 32 Compute Units activated, offering 2048 Shader Processing Units, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The GPU features a 1605 MHz base clock speed and up to 2500 MHz with boost clock. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 3060.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at 1605 MHz, rising to 2500 MHz with boost clock enabled.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 8GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, 8GB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 170W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with two available 8-pin connectors.

Performance
AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB competes with GeForce RTX 3060 8GB, which is available for $399.
Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 3060.
System Suggestions
AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
