AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This computer hardware provides top end graphics. The Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB will easily meet recommended system requirements of games released today. This is a strong benchmarker on modern games and can often return excellent frame rates at high and ultra 1080p. But the Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB can also run 1440p pc system requirements.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

We take a look at game performance achieved on this graphics card when running 2023 popular games. This short Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB game hardware review looks at the graphics card frame rate performance on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. The Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 999 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

Looking at some of the modern popular games people are playing today the Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB is running Dying Light 2 and delivering good performances on 1080p Ultra, getting 77 frames per second. Comparing this to FIFA 22 which is getting strong results, where it averages 203 FPS. Another popular game we looked at is Battlefield 2042, which is running at 62 frames per second.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Dying Light 2 to see how the Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB dealt with it. It scored up a reasonable series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 154 FPS, Medium: 121 FPS, High: 82 FPS and Ultra: 58 FPS. Next we looked at FIFA 22 which was strong with a 154 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Battlefield 2042 that got an Ultra 1440p FPS of 47. Running games at 1440p with a Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB is probably one of the better high resolution gaming options on the graphics card market. You can consider pushing most games up to 4K with this gpu and Ultra 1440p is going to be a regular occurrence for gaming today.

How many years will the Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB.

Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the second (2.0) Revision of the RDNA Architecture.

Architecture
The Navi 22 GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Navi 22 GPU features 40 Compute Units activated, offering 2560 Shader Processing Units, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The GPU features a 1605 MHz base clock speed and up to 2500 MHz with boost clock. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 3070.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at 1605 MHz, rising to 2500 MHz with boost clock enabled.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 12GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, 12GB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 170W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with two available 8-pin connectors.

Performance
AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB competes with GeForce RTX 3070 8GB, which is available for $499.
Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 3070.
System Suggestions
AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
