Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

A mid to low level graphics card, the GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB is found in budget machines nowadays, struggling to meet AAA system requirements.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB get on latest AAA 2021 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. The GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 449 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

A GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB card at 1080p is predicted to see a playable frame rate when running Grand Theft Auto VI on Ultra - 26 FPS. Lets look at the predicted performance it will get on Far Cry 6 which is 25 FPS. To add a bit more variety lets see how the popular Days Gone performs on this hardware, which gets a reasonable 48 FPS.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Grand Theft Auto VI and predict it will deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 52 FPS, Medium: 41 FPS, High: 28 FPS and Ultra: 20 FPS. We then checked the performance on Far Cry 6 to predict if that will run well. It is predicted to be weak with a 19 FPS at Ultra 1440p. In summary we feel the GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB running at 1440p is certainly a viable option for these higher gaming resolutions. Remember that if you suffer some 1440p FPS drops the you can usually tweak modern game graphics settings until you get a near High graphics setting experience with this Graphics card.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB? A great upgrade graphics card would be a 30 Series GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, which has 60% better performance and can run 976 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today. Alternatively if you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB then a good choice would be R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB as this is better than 967 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 53% better performance as well.

GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB is currently the entry level Nvidia GTX 1000 performance graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture. It comes with locked memory of 3GB instead of the full 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-300-A1 which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 9 SM activated, offering 1152 Shader Processing Units (the GTX 1060 6GB version offers 1280 SPU), 72 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1582MHz and goes up to 1797MHz, when Boost mode is activated.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1060 Zotac AMP 3GB is capable of playing most modern game system requirements at high graphics settings. The 3GB version is normally around 5% worse than the GTX 1060 6GB full fat version in terms of sheer processing power. But its the 3GB memory reduction that will hamper the high quality game textures this card can deliver, making it less future proof as more GPU memory hungry games are released.
