How well can the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q run games
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

Gamers upgrading will be considering the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q graphics card as a serious price to performance entry point. This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2023. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 800 games in the list.

The 1080p FPS on Ultra for the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q shows us that FIFA 22 is getting a strong result of 111 FPS, and then we are seeing Back 4 Blood returning a good 72 FPS while another game on our list is the Grand Theft Auto VI which is predicted to get 45 frames per second at Ultra 1080p.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We discovered the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q ran Back 4 Blood to a reasonable performance level. Results across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 145 FPS, Medium: 114 FPS, High: 77 FPS and Ultra: 55 FPS. Another game researched was Grand Theft Auto VI with predictions of L: 90FPS, M: 71FPS, H: 48FPS, U: 34FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on FIFA 22, which returned L: 222FPS, M: 175FPS, H: 118FPS, U: 84FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q is a very strong choice of graphics cards at higher resolution gaming. 4K gaming with this graphics card is certainly something that can be achieved across a number of the latest games and still achieve good graphics settings at those resolutions. Ultra 1440p is also a regular occurrence with this gpu.

How many years will the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q in your PC? This gpu has around 2+ years of running AAA recommended system requirements before any upgrades should be considered.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q.

GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q Game Requirement Analysis

Overview The following information is speculative until further confirmation is made for this new mobile graphics card series, which will be forthcoming shortly by Nvidia. The GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q is a Mid-level graphics card based on the Ampere Architecture. Architecture It equips a cut-down Ampere GPU Codenamed GA106 which is a First Gen Ampere GPU and has 16 SM activated, offering 3840 CUDA Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 48 ROPs. The Ampere architecture provides next-gen consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It is equipped with 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The central unit runs at 817MHz and goes up to 1282MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of second gen GDDR6 through a 256-bit memory interface, while the memory clock operates at 1500MHz. Performance Predicted performance of the GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q suggests it will be as fast as the Nvidia RTX 2070 Super Max-Q, making it a suitable graphics card for 1440p gaming. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a mid to high-end processor and 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
