How well can the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB run games
AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This computer hardware provides top end graphics. The Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB will easily meet recommended system requirements of games released today. This is a strong benchmarker on modern games and can often return excellent frame rates at high and ultra 1080p. But the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB can also run 1440p pc system requirements.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2023. This card runs recommended graphics requirements of 990 games from the top 1000 most demanding games being played today.

Looking at some of the modern popular games people are playing today the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB is running Battlefield 2042 and delivering reasonable performances on 1080p Ultra, getting 50 frames per second. Comparing this to Dying Light 2 which is getting good results, where it averages 62 FPS. Another popular game we looked at is Grand Theft Auto VI, which is predicted to run at 55 frames per second.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB at 1440p with Battlefield 2042, which got a playable set of FPS results. These were, Low: 101 FPS, Medium: 79 FPS, High: 53 FPS and Ultra: 38 FPS. We then checked out Dying Light 2 which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 125FPS, M: 98FPS, H: 66FPS, U: 47FPS. And another popular game was Grand Theft Auto VI with predictions of L: 111FPS, M: 87FPS, H: 59FPS, U: 42FPS at 1440p. Running games at 1440p with a Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB is capable of delivering a solid gaming experience across larger screen sized monitors. We expect to see High and Ultra graphics settings across most games at 1440p with this GPU.

How many years will the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for 2 to 3 years of meeting top end game system requirements

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB.

Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the second (2.0) Revision of the RDNA Architecture.

Architecture
The Navi 22 GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Navi 22 GPU features 40 Compute Units activated, offering 2560 Shader Processing Units, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The GPU features a 1605 MHz base clock speed and up to 2500 MHz with boost clock. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 3060.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at 1605 MHz, rising to 2500 MHz with boost clock enabled.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 12GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 1080p Gaming, In some limited scenarios, 12GB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 170W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with two available 8-pin connectors.

Performance
AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB competes with GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, which is available for $399.
Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 3060.
System Suggestions
AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 12GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 1080p. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
