How well can the GeForce GTX 690 run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

Gamers upgrading will be considering the GeForce GTX 690 graphics card as a serious price to performance entry point. This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games. All games with system requirements of DirectX 11 or lower are met by this card.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce GTX 690. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2019. This graphics hardware can run 688 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 690 performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title eFootball PES 2020 and saw it deliver good frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 193 FPS, Medium: 152 FPS, High: 102 FPS and Ultra: 73 FPS. We proceeded to look at Red Dead Redemption 2 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a reasonable 48 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we ran eFootball PES 2020 on the GeForce GTX 690 to see that it got a reasonable set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra results at 1440p - L: 147FPS, M: 116FPS, H: 78FPS, U: 56FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Red Dead Redemption 2 which seemed playable in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 36 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare where its Ultra 1440p Frame rates were playable at 34 FPS. Looking at a few of these 1440p results for the GeForce GTX 690 we get the impression that it is a solid choice of hardware for increased screen resolution gaming. We can see this graphics card is capable of delivering reliable frame rates at Ultra and certainly High graphics settings at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 690 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 690 in your PC? There is still 2 years of top end gaming left in this GeForce GTX 690

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 690? If you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 690 then a good choice would be 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB as this is better than 897 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 33% better performance as well. Alternatively if you are thinking of upgrading this graphics card then we would currently suggest the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB. This PC hardware upgrade performs 40% better and can run 959 of today’s 1000 most demanding PC games.

GeForce GTX 690 Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 690 is a dual-GPU graphics card solution of two GeForce GTX 680 (not SLI) and part of the 600 Series released by NVIDIA in 2012.
As usual and a hindrance of dual-GPU graphics cards, the clock frequencies had to be reduced. However, NVIDIA managed to almost double-cross this problem by developing Turbo Boost technology that sets the GPU's core clock from 915 to 1019MHz. The other specs, such as the number of cores, memory speed, and memory bandwidth per GPU are the same on both cards.
The Performance is mind-blowing and indicated for gamers that use demanding technologies, such as Tesselation, paired with extreme resolutions and on games already Very Demanding from the start, such as Metro 2033 and The Witcher 2. GeForce GTX 690 is less expensive and energy consuming than GTX 680 put in Dual SLI.

I bought it used 4 month ago for 120€ (138 USD / 106£) and it's still kicking ass but some games (like Nier Automata without FAR) use 2Go+ of VRAM and show that it's a bit old. But when the game is SLI friendly, it's awesome ; )

I mean the 1060 is slightly better, but if cost is a factor I've seen 690s cheaper. Non reference factory overclocked versions of the 780 ti are better in performance for less money, bringing you closer to the mark on a tighter budget

Plus consider SLI as a factor, since getting a second card of a type you already have can be a cheap upgrade as the parts get old. The 1060 has no SLI, the 690 you can run 2 because its already a dual gpu card, but 4x 780s is on the table

Best would be to buy a new card, even a gtx 970 would perform in a similar way but would last longer because it's newer but from those 3 I would definitely go with the 780ti.
