How well can the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 11.

What FPS performance can the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition get on latest AAA 2019 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 281 games in todays list.

The Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition graphics card is returning a reasonable performance on eFootball PES 2020 at 1080p of 50 frames per second at Ultra graphics settings. Another popular title that is good to benchmark graphics cards against is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which we saw got playable frame rates of 26 FPS. A third game we can look at on Ultra at 1080p is the popular The Outer Worlds, which was getting 39 FPS under tests.

With PC gamers looking for larger screen sizes like 1440p we tested the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition by playing eFootball PES 2020 which yielded a playable performance. Its FPS results for the graphics settings are as follows - L: 100FPS, M: 79FPS, H: 53FPS, U: 38FPS. Another popular game we tested with this card was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and that was weak. This graphics card delivered 20 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Another popular title was The Outer Worlds which gets playable results with a 29FPS on Ultra 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition is certainly a viable option for these higher gaming resolutions. Remember that if you suffer some 1440p FPS drops the you can usually tweak modern game graphics settings until you get a near High graphics setting experience with this Graphics card.

How many years will the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition in your PC? This Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition card has 12 to 18 months of latest AAA game play left in it before upgrading should be considered

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition? A suitable upgrade choice for the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition is the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, which is 98% more powerful and can run 897 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements. Alternatively a suitable upgrade choice for the Radeon HD 7970 XFX Black Edition is the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB, which is 46% more powerful and can run 667 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

this is weird. I am planning on buying a XFX Radeon HD 7970 Black Edition Double Dissipation. On game debate there is only a black edition and a Double Dissipation edition, but no XFX Radeon HD 7970 Black Edition Double Dissipation.

You could, but do notice that this card has a better quality chip, meaning more stability and probably a higher OC. No two gpu chips or cpu chips are the same…
