It's a great upgrade for you, however if the price difference isn't to big I would go with a 6500.

I guessed but most of the benchmarks I saw had both the GPUs running along gtx 980 or TI's and the memory clocks where near 3000mhz.
So I just wanted to the diff with mid range GPU and lower clock speed.
+1 for the reply

Get the gtx 960 or r9 380,they both cost 180$ on Amazon, but in terms of overall performance r9 380 is faster, also you will need 6 & 8 pin connector for the XFX r9 380 & atleast 500W 80+ power supply while for gtx 960 only 6 pin connector & 400Watt PSU.

Considering upgrading my cpu and gpu but nothing that I'll need a new motherboard for. What gpu can I get with this i5-4460 using roughly $250? Or what would be a better combo for that price range?

Well on Amazon you can get a gtx 960 for 180-200$ and with that card you can max almost every game on that res.

The MSI board will work fine with the i5. Alternatively you could buy an Asus Z97-P if you want another option.

It's the same as any typical intel cooler, its fine for normal use however I changed mine to an another cooler for gaming since the intel one isn't exactly the best.

Upgrading from i5 4460 to i5 4690k? Thats a huge waste of money. Its not even worth to upgrade to i7.This processor wont bottleneck gtx 970 at all,not even a bit and it is good for next 2-3 years of gaming.
