If you have an old motherboard like mine, this CPU is a godsent. It is good. Not i3/i5 level unless overclocked at 4.6GHz, but still, I bought mine for 40 euros and it packs a punch.
The stock cooler is huge tho, like HUGE. It does its work well but damn it is big. One of my RAM slot isn't available because of it

I have this cpu as a placeholder until r5 goes retail. I have it paired with a rx 480 and all I can say is that it severely bottlenecks the card. Hard.

Is it worth upgrading from an Athlon X4 845 to this? 16% better according to Game debate, but I don't know if it's worth it.

AMD Athlon have an older architecture and Skylake Pentium will has a supperior IPC compared to AMD. But the Skylake Pentium only has 2 threads, so in some programs that supports4 threads and multithreading a X4 880K might be better.
But why do you ask? Your current CPU are better then Athlon and Pentrium.

Some games don't support Cpus with less than 4 cores, therefore i would choose Athlon
