Athlon II X3 455 Game Requirement Analysis

The Athlon II series is based on the AMD K10 architecture and derived from the Phenom II series. However, unlike its Phenom siblings, it does not contain any L3 Cache. There are two Athlon II dies: the dual-core Regor die with 1 MB L2 Cache per core and the four-core Propus with 512 KB per core. Regor is a native dual-core design with lower TDP and additional L2 to offset the removal of L3 cache. The three core Rana is derived from the Propus quad-core design, with one core disabled.

I have this CPU
Pretty much cool with the standard heatsink fan, doesn't get higher than 65 Celcius.

At least in my case it doesn't get higher than that.

I can confirm that the AMD Athlon II X3 455 works really well on an old AM2+ Board.

I'd say my GFX works pretty well with this CPU, but according to GD, they have the same performance ;)

Can't believe that GD is equating this CPU with i3's :S I know Intel's 3rd gen CPU's are powerful but are they that good? Of course the X3 455 is hardly a powerhouse, but it seems a little unfair to rank it up against a dual core with a lower clock :S Not that I'm an expert, so I'm sorry if I'm way off with this XD

My CPU is probably the tiny let down of my whole system. I can play any game I've thrown at it so far, but if I had the X4, I'd be able to max out the likes of GTA IV, instead of running on about 95% quality graphics. For the price (around £60), you really can't complain. For a budget CPU, it has fantastic power.

I hardly can't believe that Tero, but it seems that you can 'gamble' with almost every rig in the GTA IV 'lottery'….low-end or high-end, in average chances do not even differ that much….but of course normally you will have a nice advantage with a quad-core CPU in this game :)

Yeah when it decides to run well, it's smooth :) But there are occasional lag spikes which don't bother me but really show how bad the game is optimized… :/ And they offcourse lower my average FPS :D

GTA IV sucks when it comes to performance and optimasation. It all rigs struggle with it. Only some lucky guys get away without any problems.

Or no patches at all and just a bunch of meaningless DLCs that try to bury the issues :D (cough Sims 3 cough)

This is why I play games like Elder Scrolls and Battlefield: they actually work and DLC is always great. Although, I'd prefer the X4 version of this CPU to get a fair amount more FPS, but this is good.

Late post I know bit I disagree Tero. This thing really lets me do anything I like and it's not OC'ed XD BFBC2, Skyrim, DiRT3, F1 2011, Euro Truck Sim 2, Star Trek Online - all maxed out or with AA off, and some others that I can't remember, so although Witcher II is newer, it should cope pretty well, though I havn't tried it.
