Gaming Laptop Analysis
Is the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 R7 3750H GTX 1660 Ti 8GB RAM 512GB M.2 good as a gaming laptop? Ok
Processor - Our laptop’s Ryzen 7 3750H 4-Core 2.3 GHz processor is just about OK as a gamers processor. However, in a year or so this bit of hardware will start to show its age and performance when up against modern game requirements. This laptop has 4 processor cores, which can really help towards modern games to avoid processor bottlenecks. This CPU core count is good, considering the modern multithreaded activity games can utilise with today’s hardware.
Graphics Card - The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB Mobile is certainly a good gaming graphics card for a 2021 laptop. Modern AAA gaming uses GPU VRAM to help deliver a smooth performance in game. The graphics solution we find here has 6GB of VRAM. This is a good amount for modern gaming.
System Memory - This 8GB of RAM is a good system memory option for a gaming laptop in 2021, as it can run a number of AAA games smoothly.
Screen Size - This screen size, which is 15.6", is a good amount for a laptop panel for modern 2021 games. Often 17inches is ideal for dedicated gaming laptops, but this is the more popular size for portability versus in-game screen viewability. You could go larger, of course, but then the larger you go the less portable a laptop becomes. For gaming laptops that are still portable, we would go for 17 inch gaming laptops.
Refresh Rate - The higher the screen panel refresh rate, the better for gaming laptops. The refresh rate is the number of times a second the screen is capable of refreshing the game’s image. If a laptop can deliver 100 frames per second (FPS) in a game and your laptop has a 60Hz refresh rate, then you will only get a max of 60 frames per second. The higher the refresh rate and the game’s FPS the smoother the sharpness is as the screen view moves around in game. Ok, after considering those thoughts on refresh rates, we have 60Hz refresh rate in the review laptop here. This isn’t great but would be mostly ok for gaming. That is unless you felt like this laptop could achieve higher FPS than the refresh rate offered here. In this case, and providing your budget allowed, look for a better refresh rate screen.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 R7 3750H GTX 1660 Ti 8GB RAM 512GB M.2 has a 1080p screen resolution, should I get a 4K resolution gaming laptop instead?
With 4K monitors being ever present and often talked about in the same breath as the term ‘future proof’, its always worth exploring the idea that you should be looking at 4K instead of this 1080p laptop. Our ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 R7 3750H GTX 1660 Ti 8GB RAM 512GB M.2’s physical 15.6" panel delivers 1920 pixels across its width and 1080 pixels tall. 4K laptops have a 60Hz screen refresh rate normally, that means a game would not be able to run at more than 60 frames per second even if the hardware could deliver more. While 60FPS would provide acceptable stability, a lot of gamers would prefer higher FPS than this. However, thats not the only issue here. Modern AAA game system requirements would need more powerful gaming hardware than is normally found in laptops, to play reliably at 4K Ultra graphics settings, even at 60FPS. It’s worth noting that the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 R7 3750H GTX 1660 Ti 8GB RAM 512GB M.2 panel is available with the following panel refresh rates 60Hz.
Dropping a game’s screen resolution down below the native 4K resolution to 1080p or 1440p, would possibly deliver the much needed FPS for stable modern AAA gaming. Down scaling that native resolution comes at a price, though. As soon as you step away from the native resolution of any monitor/ panel it lowers the clean definition of a game as the physical number of screen pixels don't match those being sent by the game. The game starts to look blurry. If your 1080p laptop has the hardware to run today’s AAA games comfortably at 4K, then plug your laptop into your desktop 4K monitor, when you are at home for some serious gaming sessions. As that desktop monitor probably isn't 60Hz restricted and is physically larger than the relatively small 17inch laptop screen size. We do just that here, with a 27inch 144Hz Nvidia GSync 1440p desktop monitor and an Alienware 51M laptop sporting a desktop RTX 2080.
Maybe you are hoping to enjoy your 4K streamed movies and TV shows while on the move. And if you have access to this 4K content and it's your prime use for your new laptop then perhaps it's worth considering a 4K panel, rather than this 1080p.
At the moment our advice would be, stick to the 1080p laptop panels for now. Your laptop remains portable and 4K laptop’s just aren't quite there yet. The 4K needs to be a no brainer but at the moment you will still have to lower resolution in game to get playable but sub par visuals that still can't raise above 60FPS.

Today’s best 4K desktop monitor for a laptop is - Asus Predator XB273K 27 inch 4K GSYNC IPS 1ms 144Hz
A nice performing 4K desktop monitor, should you want one to accompany this laptop, is the Asus Predator XB273K 27 inch 4K GSYNC IPS 1ms 144Hz. Today it is priced at $618 and has a 144Hz refresh rate. We have noticed that this 4K monitor has raised its price by $618 recently. And while it is a good 4K monitor even at this current price, it could probably be found for a bit cheaper. [Note - check that monitor display connectors are compatible between a monitor and a laptop before purchase]
If you stream 4K content, films, services like Netflix then perhaps the quality of 4K resolution on a 17inch panel would be better than the 1080p alternative that the majority of laptops provide.
Hold that 4K gaming laptop cash for perhaps a more powerful GPU or fancy mouse or headset. That's our usual advice. Otherwise it might be a bit disheartening to pay for a 4K gaming laptop, and then be forced to turn the resolution down on modern games to get them to run smoothly.
