Welcome to our ASUS ROG Zephyrus DUO 15 i7-10750H RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 32GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 performance to price review. We know its hard trying to find a way of knowing which new laptop makes the most sense. When speccing out a new laptop, as soon as you adjust a component the price jumps up and the performance gain from that component leaves you uncertain if that is worth it. We will be addressing exactly that here today. We will also be looking at how well this ASUS ROG Zephyrus DUO 15 i7-10750H RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 32GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 laptop can run today’s modern demanding games
Is the ASUS ROG Zephyrus DUO 15 i7-10750H RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 32GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 good as a gaming laptop? Excellent
Processor - This laptop processor can run modern AAA titles with little problem and is an excellent laptop CPU gaming choice for 2020. Loaded up with plenty of processor cores, this CPU has 6, which is excellent for AAA gaming that wants extra cores for processing.
Graphics Card - With the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q graphics card this is an excellent gaming GPU for 2020 AAA gaming The graphics solution in the laptop also has 8GB of VRAM. This is an excellent gamers amount of VRAM and plenty for today’s big games.
System Memory - This system memory, 32GB, is excellent for meeting 2020 AAA game requirements.
Screen Size - The screen on this laptop is certainly a good option for game releases in 2020, but there is room for better, should your budget allow. But sometimes larger than this 15.6" is too big and this is definitely a good, portable option for some gamers. While a smaller laptop provides better portability than perhaps a 15 or 17 inch gaming laptop, it will also compromise your viewability when in game.
Refresh Rate - I personally wouldnt consider getting a gaming laptop with a screen panel that had a refresh rate of 60Hz. The refresh rate number is the number of times an image can be displayed to the screen by the laptop's own screen. So if I had paid more money for a good graphics card and CPU and RAM then even though the hardware might be able to get 150FPS on Ultra settings in the latest games, the laptop screen would only display 60FPS. The more FPS capable of being displayed to screen the smoother and sharper the response of the game you are playing. An ideal minimum refresh rate amount would be around 144Hz for a great gaming laptop, but you can certainly get some with even higher refresh rates than that. With that in mind, we see that this laptop comes with an excellent 300Hz refresh rate for gaming. Of course, anything over 60Hz is good for gaming focused laptops.
With this gaming laptop we will be exploring how well it can run modern, demanding and popular games that are out now or will be coming out over the coming months. Currently we will want to understand its gaming performance compared to its overall laptop cost and we can do this by looking at how it could run popular games like, Cyberpunk 2077 or Assassins Creed: Valhalla. We will be seeing how it deals with these games in ultra graphics settings on its laptop screen resolution of 1080p. We find a GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q mobile graphics card in this laptop, which is currently capable of playing 494 games, if you consider their minimum graphics system requirements as the playable level to beat. However, today the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q is also capable of running 390 games at their recommended specs, this is when compared to the top 500 most demanding games.
Now let us compare the ASUS ROG Zephyrus DUO 15 i7-10750H RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 32GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 laptop to other gaming laptops, with regards to the performance ability it delivers and when considering the price of the laptop. Obviously there are many things that go into a quality laptop build, but at this point we want a standardised system to compare across laptops just on that criteria. It will consider $ of the laptop with regards to its key hardware capability in running modern games performance delivered by this laptop’s hardware.
A 0 P2P score rating out of 10 has been allocated today to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus DUO 15 i7-10750H RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 32GB RAM 2.0TB M.2. This value will adjust automatically as hardware and modern performance requirements from laptops improve over time. This laptop’s configuration, when compared to its own ROG Zephyrus DUO 15 lineup, is currently placed at 5th once we order it by the price to performance figure. Obviously scoring towards the 1st position is preferable.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus DUO 15 i7-10750H RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 32GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 has a physical 15.6" screen size and a fixed number of pixels in that screen of 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall, or 1080p resolution. So is it ok to go for a 1080p laptop like this one or should I be considering a 4K screen resolution laptop instead of this? 4K laptops have a 60Hz screen refresh rate normally, that means a game would not be able to run at more than 60 frames per second even if the hardware could deliver more. While 60FPS would provide acceptable stability, a lot of gamers would prefer higher FPS than this. However, thats not the only issue here. Modern AAA game system requirements would need more powerful gaming hardware than is normally found in laptops, to play reliably at 4K Ultra graphics settings, even at 60FPS. This review laptop has 300Hz refresh rate versions available.
We can always lower the game’s displayed screen resolution to something like 1080p or 1440p which is below the 4K laptop’s native pixel count. This will get a more stable game experience, increasing a game’s FPS that might be needed across a number of modern AAA games on a 4K laptop. However, getting away from the laptop’s more native 4K resolution, will take away in-game graphics definition. Not an ideal situation, playing blurry games on your new 4K laptop. If the new 4K laptop has the performance to play modern games at 4K resolution, then perhaps the laptop’s 15 or 17 inch screen isnt enough to fully enjoy the high pixel count? So if you have or can get a desktop monitor that delivers more than the 60Hz frame rate limiter, for that gaming experience then you can keep your laptop mobile and still enjoy high end gaming.
4K streaming could be a viable reason to consider 4K over 1080p laptop panels.
At the moment our advice would be, stick to the 1080p laptop panels for now. Your laptop remains portable and 4K laptop’s just aren't quite there yet. The 4K needs to be a no brainer but at the moment you will still have to lower resolution in game to get playable but sub par visuals that still can't raise above 60FPS.
Today’s well priced 1440p desktop monitor we have found is a ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV 27 inch 1440p 75Hz 5ms IPS that has a 75Hz refresh rate and priced at $294.99. Our cheapest tracked price for the desktop 1440p monitor was $272.99, which we recorded on 5th Aug 2020.
If you wanted to pick up a 4K desktop monitor to go alongside this laptop then the Asus Predator XB273K 27 inch 4K GSYNC IPS 1ms 144Hz looks well priced right now. At $829.99 it also has a 144Hz refresh rate. Providing some more insight, this 4K Monitor has increased its price by $799 during these past two weeks. So keep your eyes out as it could be cheaper than we have recorded here today. Reviewing tracked prices for our suggested 4k monitor, its lowest price was recorded on 11th Aug 2020, where we spotted it for $797.05.
[Note - check that monitor display connectors are compatible between a monitor and a laptop before purchase]
So why would you get a 4K capable laptop? If you enjoy movies or Netflix at 4K and have access to 4K content via those types of services then perhaps the quality of 4K resolution on a 17inch panel would be a great experience, but we still think you wouldn't miss that 4K.
Perhaps in the future the 4K gaming laptop would make sense but for now certainly move forward on the 1080p laptop over the 4K options. This way your new laptop remains, well mobile and built for purpose. Picking up a 4K laptop for gaming should be a great choice but at the moment you would sadly be turning down the display quality by dropping resolution or game settings to get the game to deliver more FPS, and even then the 4K panel will likely be capped at 60FPS due to the hertz refresh rate it often comes with.
