Today's review of the gaming Lenovo Legion 5i 15 i7-10750H RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop explores the performance to value relationship of its hardware components. We will be comparing some of the most demanding games to see some expected frame rates for the Lenovo Legion 5i 15 i7-10750H RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop and understand the type of price to performance on offer.
Is the Lenovo Legion 5i 15 i7-10750H RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 good as a gaming laptop? Good
Processor - An excellent CPU for running AAA game requirements, especially during the 2021 gaming year. It will be solid for some time to come as well. With 6 of CPU cores available, this processor doesn’t have to worry too much about gaming processes bottlenecking as few games will be able to use all of these cores completely
Graphics Card - This laptop graphics solution can run plenty of modern AAA game releases in 2021 and is a good gaming laptop GPU choice. This GPU has 6GB VRAM, which is a good amount for AAA gaming but you could find other modern GPU’s that provide more.
System Memory - This laptop’s 16GB RAM can deal with everything modern games can throw at it and is a good step towards this being an excellent gaming laptop choice.
Screen Size - By our standards our review laptop’s 15.6" panel is considered good for modern 2021 gaming. There are larger laptops but with this laptop you will get a good balance between portability and gaming viewability. The screen size provides a gamer with larger menus, whereas the resolution of the panel provides definition. You could go larger, of course, but then the larger you go the less portable a laptop becomes. For gaming laptops that are still portable, we would go for 17 inch gaming laptops.
Refresh Rate - Gaming laptops might well be capable of getting high frames per second nowadays, but sometimes the laptop comes with a 60Hz refresh rate. This refresh rate is the number of times an image can be displayed by the screen. So if your graphics card and processor can get 100 FPS in most games, it will only ever be displayed by the laptop as 60FPS because of the refresh rate of 60Hz. Look for 120Hz on a good gaming laptop, or 144Hz on an excellent gaming laptop We can see this laptop can support high gaming refresh rates, with 144Hz screen panel built in. This is excellent refresh rates for gaming. More than 60Hz would still be suitable for gaming.
As gamers, one of the biggest choices we make for a new portable machine is to select a laptop with the right mobile graphics card. With this laptop we are specifically considering how the price-to-performance of the graphics card looks and if it has the capability to run modern popular games like today’s most popular titles, Grand Theft Auto VI and Battlefield 6 in ultra graphics settings on its native 1080p resolution. Lets compare the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile found in this laptop to today’s top 500 most demanding games. Of those games, this laptops GPU can run 491 at their minimum system requirements and then 322 games when looking at their recommended system specs.
Have you been looking for the best gaming laptop for your buck? Well you have probably encountered what we have, which is that, only certain laptops are normally reviewed and even then the review is often using games that are now getting out of date. So we decided to factor in all permutations of the Legion 5i 15 model range and compare them against the price adjustments those hardware variations incur when you change a GPU, for example. And so we have created this Lenovo Legion 5i 15 i7-10750H RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop price to performance review with a P2P rating to help standardise our comparisons.
We currently give the Lenovo Legion 5i 15 i7-10750H RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop a 9 out of 10 for its P2P score. Where the higher the better rating. As mentioned the figure will adjust as new hardware is released and performance expectations shift over time. Looking at how this configuration of the Legion 5i 15 laptop compares against other laptops within its range we can see it currently is placed at the 4th spot. Those laptops that are closer to the top 1st place of the model range are considered better gaming laptops regarding performance and laptop price.

As one of the key focuses of any computer is the CPU we will want to know how well our Legion 5i 15 laptop performs in this area. A good way of gauging this is to put it in a comparison with the best priced CPU focused laptop available today, and then check out its relative performance against that top CPU laptop. Using the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 (2021) R9 5900HX RTX 3080 8GB Max-Q 64GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 1080p 165Hz laptop for the best CPU laptop performer comparison tests with our laptop. This puts the top end Ryzen 9 5900HX 8-Core 3.3GHz processor from that laptop against our review laptop’s Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz, and this comparison shows that laptop to be 45% better in performance compared to our review laptop.
Our laptop processor, the Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz, can currently meet the recommended system requirements of 463 games when compared against the top 500 most demanding games right now. This number changes to 500 for the top 500 most demanding minimum system requirements.
Games these days have a range of processor requirements so let's look at a few popular games of today, and check our laptop CPU against the games recommended requirement. First off, Grand Theft Auto VI and our laptop processor gets 9% better performance rating. Next we have Battlefield 6 where our CPU gets 17% better performance and finally another popular title at the moment is Resident Evil 8, which has a performance difference of : 3% worse, when put against our laptop’s Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz.
You will likely be considering buying a graphics and pixel crunching laptop perhaps to meet the latest and future game requirements. We will therefore be wondering how our Legion 5i 15 review laptop competes against other GPU centric laptops in the gaming laptop market. To give us a bit of insight we will compare our laptop with a leading GPU performance laptop and see how its graphics capability performs against it. We have chosen this next laptop for its GPU power, which is the Dell Alienware M17 R4 (2021) i9-10980HK RTX 3080 16GB Mobile 32GB RAM 512GB M.2 1080p 144Hz, and comes packing a GeForce RTX 3080 16GB Mobile video card. That graphics card performs 65% better when compared to our review laptop’s GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile.
Our laptop Graphics Card, the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile, can currently meet the recommended system requirements of 322 games when compared against the top 500 most demanding games right now. This number changes to 491 for the top 500 most demanding minimum system requirements.
Some of the most popular games today are really the primary benchmark for any laptop’s ability, so we thought we should compare our laptop GPU GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile against Grand Theft Auto VI. This video card performance comparison saw our laptop deliver 21% worse performance against the game’s recommended GPU system requirements. Then we have Battlefield 6 and our laptop was 12% worse in graphics performance and another popular title today is Resident Evil 8 which we saw our review laptop get 12% worse compared to our laptop gpu.
This Lenovo Legion 5i 15 i7-10750H RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop has a 15.6" physical screen size and displays 1920 pixel by 1080 pixels tall native 1080p resolution. Is this 1080p laptop good for your needs though or should you instead be looking to buy a 4K screen mobile PC rather than this? 4K laptops would likely come with a 60 FPS cap on games, set by the laptop screen’s 60Hz refresh rate. So regardless of what the hardware is capable of in the 4K laptop they couldn't push their FPS beyond that screen refresh rate. Now AAA games today when played at Ultra graphics settings and a 4K resolution likely don't have hardware capable of 60 FPS anyway. What refresh rate does the Lenovo Legion 5i 15 i7-10750H RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 panel have available? It can be picked up with the following 144Hz refresh rates.
As a somewhat last resort a gamer could lower a game’s displayed screen resolution away from the 4K laptop’s native pixel count. Dropping down to 1080p or maybe 1440p would deliver more frames per second in game and help provide a more stable FPS in modern AAA games. But taking this action, moving away from the native 4K resolution, immediately reduces game graphics definition and makes it look blurry. Not an ideal situation on a new gaming 4K laptop. And if your laptop does have the power to run some of the modern games in 4K Ultra, you are likely to want to enjoy them on a larger than 17inch laptop panel. So at a later point perhaps buy a dedicated monitor for your desk that isnt 60Hz restricted, for those games, thus keeping your laptop for mobility.
If you stream 4K content, films, services like Netflix then perhaps the quality of 4K resolution on a 17inch panel would be better than the 1080p alternative that the majority of laptops provide.
As you can probably gather from the information above, its probably not worth the extra cash for a 4K laptop if gaming is your Laptop purpose. 1080p is likely plenty and has enough alternative gaming options for when you want better resolution. It feels like you might not get what you were after if you picked up a shiny new 4K laptop, then was needing to lower game resolution, while getting blurry in-game experience and achieving a max 60FPS when you could push the hardware into better frame rates.
A well priced 1440p gaming monitor with 75Hz, is the ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV 27 inch 1440p 75Hz 5ms IPS, which is currently priced at $299.00 and would work well with our Lenovo Legion 5i 15 i7-10750H RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop. We like to review tracked prices for our suggested hardware and this 1440p monitor is no different. We spotted its lowest price, recorded on 9th Mar 2021, where it cost $229.99.
The 4K Asus Predator XB273K 27 inch 4K GSYNC IPS 1ms 144Hz display is our current suggestion if you wanted to grab a desktop monitor. With a $629.99 price at the moment it also has a 144Hz refresh rate. During these past 2 weeks, this 4K monitor’s price has gone up by $629.99. For some extra info about this 4k monitor, during our price tracking we can see the lowest price recorded by us was $549.99, which was on 13th Nov 2020.
[Note - check that monitor display connectors are compatible between a monitor and a laptop before purchase]
However, you could be after watching 4K streaming content on your laptop, while on the move. Then perhaps the 17inch laptop screen and 4K resolution is going to net a more enjoyable experience than a 1080p alternative.
Paying extra for 4K gaming in a laptop is not really a good investment of your cash at the moment. We would put our extra cash in to a 1080p with better graphics card or maybe a nice mouse or headset. Because with the 4K laptop you may be sad when having to drop your favourite modern games screen resolution to get an ok frame rate. Or perhaps lowering the graphics setting to increase 4K FPS up to a stable and playable amount, only to hit a 60FPS ceiling due to the 60Hz 4K panel limit.
