We will also look at a few of the more popular games like, Grand Theft Auto VI or Resident Evil 8. A first point of reference is seeing how many the mobile gpu, a GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile found in this laptop, can run of today's 500 most demanding games. When we factor in all variations of hardware and prices that the GP75 Leopard laptop comes with, it gets very difficult to understand what value each permutation of this laptop will offer. To help us compare laptops based on their direct gaming value and capabilities, we defined a price to performance rating and allocated it to every laptop we review. Because as you have no doubt discovered during your research, it is very difficult to compare laptops for value against all other laptops. Even within their own model range. As soon as you adjust a single component and the laptop price shifts, what has that done to the gaming value of your laptop and is it still ok value for money? So we use a P2P rating to standardise the way we can look at all laptops. Of course laptops have tonnes of other values that are breathed into them when they are designed and they are not just about price to performance. But this is certainly a good way for us to help see the bigger picture, especially for a gaming laptop.
With a P2P rating currently of 9.1 out of 10 for the MSI GP75 Leopard i7-10750H RTX 2070 Mobile 16GB RAM 512GB M.2. This relative value will change as hardware costs and their performance change over time for laptops. This laptop’s configuration, when compared to its own GP75 Leopard lineup, is currently placed at 1st once we order it by the price to performance figure. Obviously scoring towards the 1st position is preferable.

One of the key components in a laptop is of course its CPU. So let's see if our GP75 Leopard laptop compares favourably when placed against the laptop that has one of the most powerful CPU’s around today. This comparison will at least help us know how this laptop performs against the top end CPU laptop and we can then see the amount of money we might have to pay to get that sort of laptop. Selecting todays ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 (2021) R9 5900HX RTX 3080 8GB Max-Q 64GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 1080p 165Hz laptop, we will use its mighty Ryzen 9 5900HX 8-Core 3.3GHz to compare against our Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz processor from our review laptop. We can see that the top end CPU currently delivers 45% better performance when benched against our own review laptop’s Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz.
Our laptop processor, the Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz, can currently meet the recommended system requirements of 463 games when compared against the top 500 most demanding games right now. This number changes to 500 for the top 500 most demanding minimum system requirements.
Recommended processor requirements for modern games increase all the time, so we thought we would compare the performance of our laptop CPU to some popular games of today. First off there is Resident Evil 8 and our laptop CPU delivers 3% worse performance compared to that game’s requirement. Next we have Mass Effect: Legendary Edition in which we see our laptop processor has 9% better performance compared to the game's CPU specs. And then there is 9% better performance when we put our laptop cpu against Grand Theft Auto VI recommended specs.
A good comparison in terms of graphical power for our review model would be to compare it to one of the most powerful GPU focused laptop’s around today. This type of comparison can show us what another laptop, with a top end graphics hardware solution, can deliver and in turn provide us a relative point of laptop Graphics Card cost comparison. We choose the Dell Alienware M17 R4 (2021) i9-10980HK RTX 3080 16GB Mobile 32GB RAM 512GB M.2 1080p 144Hz laptop as one of the best GPU laptop performers today to compare graphics ability with our laptop. This comparison shows that laptop to be 40% better comparably in performance as our review laptop.
Our laptop GPU beats 435 games recommended system requirements when looking at today’s top 500 most demanding games. This number changes to 495 games if we compare to the top 500 most demanding games for minimum system requirements.
Lets take a look and see how well our GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile compares against today’s most popular games. Against the recommended graphics specs for Grand Theft Auto VI our laptop is 4% worse, and compared to Resident Evil 8 it is 4% better , where as against Mass Effect: Legendary Edition it delivers 4% better performance.
This laptop has a 17.3" physical screen size with a native resolution of 1920x1080. So should you instead be thinking of picking up a 4K monitor rather than this MSI GP75 Leopard i7-10750H RTX 2070 Mobile 16GB RAM 512GB M.2’s 1080p panel? Today’s 4K laptops normally have a 60Hz screen refresh rate which would mean that should the laptop’s hardware be capable of running a 4K game, it would be restricted to a cap of 60 frames per second. As game system requirements continue to push for more powerful hardware, the components in a laptop, and many desktops as well, are simply not capable of delivering playable frame rates at Ultra graphics settings and a 4K resolution. With higher the better refresh rates for your laptop monitor, this particular MSI GP75 Leopard i7-10750H RTX 2070 Mobile 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop is available in 240Hz variety.
We can always lower the game’s displayed screen resolution to something like 1080p or 1440p which is below the 4K laptop’s native pixel count. This will get a more stable game experience, increasing a game’s FPS that might be needed across a number of modern AAA games on a 4K laptop. However, getting away from the laptop’s more native 4K resolution, will take away in-game graphics definition. Not an ideal situation, playing blurry games on your new 4K laptop. The laptop has got 4K capable hardware? Well when you are not on the move, plug the laptop into a 144Hz or better desktop monitor that’s 28inches and comes with a 1440p or 4K resolution to enjoy modern gaming without FPS or size limits.
However, you could be after watching 4K streaming content on your laptop, while on the move. Then perhaps the 17inch laptop screen and 4K resolution is going to net a more enjoyable experience than a 1080p alternative.
As you can probably gather from the information above, its probably not worth the extra cash for a 4K laptop if gaming is your Laptop purpose. 1080p is likely plenty and has enough alternative gaming options for when you want better resolution. It feels like you might not get what you were after if you picked up a shiny new 4K laptop, then was needing to lower game resolution, while getting blurry in-game experience and achieving a max 60FPS when you could push the hardware into better frame rates.
The 1440p gaming monitor that has a great price today and should be a nice accompaniment to the MSI GP75 Leopard i7-10750H RTX 2070 Mobile 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop is the ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV 27 inch 1440p 75Hz 5ms IPS. Its current price is $299.00 and it has a 75Hz refresh rate. We have seen this desktop 1440p monitor recorded at a low price on 9th Mar 2021, where we saw it was costing $229.99.
Why not grab a monitor like the Asus Predator XB273K 27 inch 4K GSYNC IPS 1ms 144Hz 4K screen. It is currently coming in with the best price tag in the 4K range of monitors that we are watching, at $629.99 and has a 144Hz refresh rate. During these recent weeks we have price tracked this 4k monitor and noticed that it has increased its price by $629.99, so keep an eye out for deals, as this great value monitor might still be found for cheaper. Our 4k monitor price tracker recorded and marked its lowest price on 13th Nov 2020, it reached the lower price of $549.99.
[Note - check that monitor display connectors are compatible between a monitor and a laptop before purchase]
If you are looking to view 4K streaming content, while keeping yourself mobile with your laptop, then maybe a 4K resolution panel would be a better experience than the normal 1080p. In general, we think it's probably not worth the extra money for any visual gains you might not spot, without a direct comparison, especially if you are thinking to game on your laptop as well.
For now in the laptop space, it looks best to stick with 1080p panels. This way your laptop’s physical size remains practical and portable, 17inch laptops are plenty big enough. And at the moment you will still have to lower game resolutions down from 4K, on the bigger hitting AAA titles, that would then get playable, but sub par visuals and you would still hit the 60FPS cap if your hardware could go beyond 60FPS.
