If you adjust the spec you are looking at on a gaming laptop, the price hikes up and makes it harder to judge price to performance. Today's MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2060 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop review is going to give us all a good sense of these sorts of values. We will take a look at what sort of performance you can expect the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2060 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop to return across the more demanding games of today.
Is the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2060 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 good as a gaming laptop? Good
Processor - This laptop processor can run modern AAA titles with little problem and is an excellent laptop CPU gaming choice for 2021. The processor in this laptop has 6 cores, which makes it excellent for modern gamers, minimising the risk of throttling game processes due to a lack of available cores.
Graphics Card - A good graphics card for gamers, capable of running titles during this 2021 gaming year. The GPU in this laptop comes with 6GB of VRAM. This is a good amount for today’s AAA games.
System Memory - This laptop system memory is excellent at meeting today’s 2021 system requirements demands and with its 16GB of RAM it will certainly meet the requirements of games into the near future as well.
Screen Size - Our review laptop has what we would consider, an excellent laptop panel size for 2021 games. It will help the gamer see in-game menus and be able to see some of the detail offered in game, without having to squint. Having at least a 17.3" panel seems to be the right way to go for gaming at the moment.
Refresh Rate - The higher the screen panel refresh rate, the better for gaming laptops. The refresh rate is the number of times a second the screen is capable of refreshing the game’s image. If a laptop can deliver 100 frames per second (FPS) in a game and your laptop has a 60Hz refresh rate, then you will only get a max of 60 frames per second. The higher the refresh rate and the game’s FPS the smoother the sharpness is as the screen view moves around in game. This laptop can be picked up with a refresh rate of 240Hz option. It is an excellent gamers choice for screen refresh rates.
No two laptops are the same. But one of the primary gaming laptop components is of course the graphics card. Often a slightly weaker mobile solution, when compared to its desktop equivalent. Today we will consider this laptop's hardware, when running modern popular and sometimes demanding games, like Grand Theft Auto VI, Battlefield 6 and Resident Evil 8 which will help us know if this mobile graphics card and the overall laptop hardware is considered a good price to performance point. We consider it running these titles at its native 1080p resolution, and at Ultra video settings. A first point of reference is seeing how many the mobile gpu, a GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q found in this laptop, can run of today's 500 most demanding games. In particular it would seem that it can currently run 301 at recommended graphics requirements and then 489 games at their min specs.
During our research for the next best gaming laptop purchase we decided to compare MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2060 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 will compare across all permutations of the GS75 Stealth model range. This will give us a good sense of how well it sits in terms of cost to performance within its own lineup, and will better help us decide if this laptop represents good value to us today.
We review performance and allocate a P2P rating out of 10 that will adjust over time as the prices for hardware adjust. This laptop is currently given a 0 for P2P. With a number of GS75 Stealth laptops in the model lineup this particular variant places at the 13th position for Price to Performance value. Laptops closer to the top place (1st) are value gaming laptop options that deliver the best performance for the laptop price.

Today's best gaming laptop for Price to Performance is the ASUS TUF A15 R7 4800H GTX 1660 Ti 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 ($999.00) and our laptop is 100% worse if we directly compare the price to performance rating against that best hardware performance to value laptop. Second on the Price to Performance laptop ranking at the moment is the Acer Nitro 5 2020 R5 4600H GTX 1650 Mobile 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 which we have a recorded price of $853.00. If we compare our laptop to this one then our laptop returns with 100% worse performance/ price rating figure than it.
As a point of benchmark lets see how well our laptop looks when directly compared on processing performance against the top CPU focused laptop currently available. This top tier processor focused laptop is currently the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 (2021) R9 5900HX RTX 3080 8GB Max-Q 64GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 1080p 165Hz. With a Ryzen 9 5900HX 8-Core 3.3GHz CPU in it that performs 45% better compared to our laptop’s Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz.
A quick review of the number of games our laptop processor can run at recommended requirements is 463, taken from the top 500 most demanding games today. For min cpu specs this figure for number of games it can run is 500.
Games these days have a range of processor requirements so let's look at a few popular games of today, and check our laptop CPU against the games recommended requirement. First off, Grand Theft Auto VI and our laptop processor gets 9% better performance rating. Next we have Battlefield 6 where our CPU gets 17% better performance and finally another popular title at the moment is Resident Evil 8, which has a performance difference of : 3% worse, when put against our laptop’s Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz.
Shall we see if our review laptop holds out favourably against a top GPU performance focused laptop PC that is currently available. Lets grab a graphics focused laptop for comparison then. We have chosen the Dell Alienware M17 R4 (2021) i9-10980HK RTX 3080 16GB Mobile 32GB RAM 512GB M.2 1080p 144Hz laptop for its graphical performance. Our laptop GPU beats 301 games recommended system requirements when looking at today’s top 500 most demanding games. This number changes to 489 games if we compare to the top 500 most demanding games for minimum system requirements.
Some of the most popular games today are really the primary benchmark for any laptop’s ability, so we thought we should compare our laptop GPU GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q against Grand Theft Auto VI. This video card performance comparison saw our laptop deliver 35% worse performance against the game’s recommended GPU system requirements. Then we have Battlefield 6 and our laptop was 25% worse in graphics performance and another popular title today is Resident Evil 8 which we saw our review laptop get 25% worse compared to our laptop gpu.
We thought we would explore this question about best screen resolutions for your laptop, as it comes up a lot. This MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2060 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop has a 17.3" screen and is 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall and in other words has a 1080p resolution. With 60Hz being the usual screen refresh rate on 4K laptop panels this would cap a game to run at no more than 60 frames per second, even if the 4K laptop hardware could deliver more. And then most AAA games require more powerful hardware than a laptop houses to play stable 4K Ultra graphics setting games, even at a passable but, some would consider, a bit low, 60FPS. You can find the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2060 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 panel with 240Hz refresh rate variants.
To get back some of those missing FPS on a AAA game we lower the game’s displayed screen resolution and get some stability in the game’s performance. This is usually a last resort for gamers though and not the sort of action taken by someone who has just shelled out for a new 4K laptop. Lowering down from a native 4K resolution, perhaps to 1080p or 1440p ups the game’s FPS but veering from the native 4K resolution leaves a game looking blurry. Definition of graphics drops and surely this puts forward the need to question someone’s choice for a 4K gaming laptop. The laptop has got 4K capable hardware? Well when you are not on the move, plug the laptop into a 144Hz or better desktop monitor that’s 28inches and comes with a 1440p or 4K resolution to enjoy modern gaming without FPS or size limits.
If you are looking to view 4K streaming content, while keeping yourself mobile with your laptop, then maybe a 4K resolution panel would be a better experience than the normal 1080p. In general, we think it's probably not worth the extra money for any visual gains you might not spot, without a direct comparison, especially if you are thinking to game on your laptop as well.
We think don't spend your extra cash on getting a 4K laptop to game on, as it's likely to feel disappointing to buy a super shiny new 4K laptop, then have to lower the resolution while playing your games, delivering a blurry in-game experience, and only getting up to a maximum 60FPS due to the usual 60Hz 4K panel restriction.
A well priced 1440p gaming monitor today is the ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV 27 inch 1440p 75Hz 5ms IPS. With its 75Hz refresh rate and a current price of $299.00 it should go nicely with this MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2060 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop. We like to price track our favourite laptop hardware and peripherals. And as a point of note the lowest tracked price for this 1440p monitor was recorded on 9th Mar 2021, which was priced at $229.99.
Here is a 4K monitor to compliment any laptop - Asus Predator XB273K 27 inch 4K GSYNC IPS 1ms 144Hz. We watch a handful and it is currently the best priced at $629.99. It has a 144Hz refresh rate as well. We have noticed that this 4K monitor has raised its price by $629.99 recently. And while it is a good 4K monitor even at this current price, it could probably be found for a bit cheaper. To give a bit more info about this monitor we saw it cost its lowest of $549.99, which we recorded on 13th Nov 2020.
[Note - check that monitor display connectors are compatible between a monitor and a laptop before purchase]
If you stream 4K content, films, services like Netflix then perhaps the quality of 4K resolution on a 17inch panel would be better than the 1080p alternative that the majority of laptops provide.
As you can probably gather from the information above, it's probably not worth the extra cash for a 4K laptop if gaming is your Laptop purpose. 1080p is likely plenty and has enough alternative gaming options for when you want better resolution. It feels like you might not get what you were after if you picked up a shiny new 4K laptop, then was needing to lower game resolution, while getting blurry in-game experience and achieving a max 60FPS when you could push the hardware into better frame rates.
