If you are looking to buy a new gaming laptop and want to know how well the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 compares to other laptops on offer then you have come to the right place. Today we are going to explore the type of performance return we can expect from this mobile gaming solution by comparing it to today’s demanding games
Is the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 good as a gaming laptop? Good
Processor - A Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz CPU that is housed in this laptop is excellent for modern AAA gaming during 2021. AAA games often need extra cores to run smoothly and minimise bottleneck. This laptop processor has 6 cores, which is excellent for modern gaming.
Graphics Card - This laptop graphics card is certainly solid and capable of running a number of AAA titles that are released during 2021, making it a good gamer’s laptop choice. The 8GB that this graphics solution has is excellent for all modern gaming.
System Memory - The system memory (16GB) we find in this gaming laptop can meet modern AAA game requirements. This amount of RAM is an excellent 2021 gaming laptop choice, that will help meet game requirements now and into the future.
Screen Size - Our review laptop has what we would consider, an excellent laptop panel size for 2021 games. It will help the gamer see in-game menus and be able to see some of the detail offered in game, without having to squint. Having at least a 17.3" panel seems to be the right way to go for gaming at the moment.
Refresh Rate - I personally wouldnt consider getting a gaming laptop with a screen panel that had a refresh rate of 60Hz. The refresh rate number is the number of times an image can be displayed to the screen by the laptop's own screen. So if I had paid more money for a good graphics card and CPU and RAM then even though the hardware might be able to get 150FPS on Ultra settings in the latest games, the laptop screen would only display 60FPS. The more FPS capable of being displayed to screen the smoother and sharper the response of the game you are playing. An ideal minimum refresh rate amount would be around 144Hz for a great gaming laptop, but you can certainly get some with even higher refresh rates than that. After considering that, we can see that this laptop has an excellent 240Hz gaming laptop refresh rate. But otherwise for peace of mind, try and find a laptop panel that is more than 60Hz and that will still be ok.
One of the most important components to a gamer for this laptop is getting it’s graphics card right. We will be taking a look at the sort of price to performance ratio the laptop hardware has and in particular help us know if how well the graphics card can run Grand Theft Auto VI at 1080p ultra settings. The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q in this machine is currently capable of running 491 games at minimum system requirements of the 500 most demanding games available today. Where as it is capable of running 346 games of the top 500 most demanding recommended system requirements.

One of the key components in a laptop is of course its CPU. So let's see if our GS75 Stealth laptop compares favourably when placed against the laptop that has one of the most powerful CPU’s around today. This comparison will at least help us know how this laptop performs against the top end CPU laptop and we can then see the amount of money we might have to pay to get that sort of laptop. The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 (2021) R9 5900HX RTX 3080 8GB Max-Q 64GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 1080p 165Hz is today’s best performer in the laptop CPU department. It has a Ryzen 9 5900HX 8-Core 3.3GHz processor in it, which currently has 45% better performance than our laptop’s Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz.
Our laptop’s CPU can currently run 463 of today’s top 500 demanding games meeting their recommended processor requirements. This figure is 500 for the top 500 minimum requirement games that can be run by the Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz.
A game’s listed recommended CPU requirements are a good way to compare the performance of our laptop CPU. Lets see today's popular titles up against our laptop processor. First off let's look at Resident Evil 8 which shows our laptop CPU has 3% worse performance than it. How about Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, where we see our CPU is 9% better. Then there is 9% better performance when compared against today’s most popular title, Grand Theft Auto VI.
One of the most important focuses of a gaming PC is the graphics card and our review laptop is certainly no different. As such we will want to know how well our GS75 Stealth laptop performs in the graphical visuals area compared to what is available on the current laptop market. A great way to consider this is by putting it into a comparison against a well priced laptop that has the most powerful laptop GPU around at the moment, and then we can review its performance against that top graphics card laptop. The GPU focused laptop we picked for our comparison is the Dell Alienware M17 R4 (2021) i9-10980HK RTX 3080 16GB Mobile 32GB RAM 512GB M.2 1080p 144Hz. Its got one of the best graphics cards found in laptops at the moment, which is the GeForce RTX 3080 16GB Mobile. It delivers 59% better performance when benched against our own review laptop’s GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q.
Our laptop’s GPU can currently run 346 of today’s top 500 demanding games meeting their recommended Graphics Card requirements. This figure is 491 for the top 500 minimum requirement games that can be run by the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q.
When compared to the recommended graphics requirements of the most popular games today, like Grand Theft Auto VI our laptop GPU is 17% worse in performance. Compared to Resident Evil 8 our laptop graphics performance is 8% worse.
The MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 has a physical 17.3" screen size and a fixed number of pixels in that screen of 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall, or 1080p resolution. So is it ok to go for a 1080p laptop like this one or should I be considering a 4K screen resolution laptop instead of this? A 4K laptops will likely run with 60Hz screen refresh rate, so should the laptop’s hardware be able to get good frame rates at 4K resolution and due to the refresh rate the laptop would max out at 60 frames per second as its screen would not be capable of delivering any higher. Modern games in Ultra graphics settings are also normally too demanding for a 4K resolution anyway. This review laptop has 240Hz refresh rate versions available.
We can always lower the game’s displayed screen resolution to something like 1080p or 1440p which is below the 4K laptop’s native pixel count. This will get a more stable game experience, increasing a game’s FPS that might be needed across a number of modern AAA games on a 4K laptop. However, getting away from the laptop’s more native 4K resolution, will take away in-game graphics definition. Not an ideal situation, playing blurry games on your new 4K laptop. But if the laptop does have the hardware to run today's AAA titles at 4K resolution, a normal sized portable PC comes with a 15 or 17 inch panel. This might not be physically big enough to make the most of the splendors of your game. It would of course look great still, but perhaps a dedicated monitor for your desk, one that isnt 60Hz restricted would accommodate that gaming scenario.
The primary 4K use would most likely be streaming movie and TV content at that resolution, assuming you have access to these services in 4K. At which point perhaps its enough of a selling point for you to consider a 4K laptop..
We think don't spend your extra cash on getting a 4K laptop to game on, as it's likely to feel disappointing to buy a super shiny new 4K laptop, then have to lower the resolution while playing your games, delivering a blurry in-game experience, and only getting up to a maximum 60FPS due to the usual 60Hz 4K panel restriction.
Today’s best priced 1440p gaming monitor, to work nicely with our MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2, would be the ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV 27 inch 1440p 75Hz 5ms IPS, which is priced at $299.00 and has a refresh rate of 75Hz. We like to price track our favourite laptop hardware and peripherals. And as a point of note the lowest tracked price for this 1440p monitor was recorded on 9th Mar 2021, which was priced at $229.99.
Today’s most competitive 4K gaming monitor by price is Asus Predator XB273K 27 inch 4K GSYNC IPS 1ms 144Hz and could work well with the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop. It is priced at $629.99. During these past 2 weeks, this 4K monitor’s price has gone up by $629.99. Our 4k monitor price tracker recorded and marked its lowest price on 13th Nov 2020, it reached the lower price of $549.99.
[Note - check that monitor display connectors are compatible between a monitor and a laptop before purchase]
If you are looking to view 4K streaming content, while keeping yourself mobile with your laptop, then maybe a 4K resolution panel would be a better experience than the normal 1080p. In general, we think it's probably not worth the extra money for any visual gains you might not spot, without a direct comparison, especially if you are thinking to game on your laptop as well.
Hold that 4K gaming laptop cash for perhaps a more powerful GPU or fancy mouse or headset. That's our usual advice. Otherwise it might be a bit disheartening to pay for a 4K gaming laptop, and then be forced to turn the resolution down on modern games to get them to run smoothly.
