Today's review of the gaming MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop explores the performance to value relationship of its hardware components. We will be comparing some of the most demanding games to see some expected frame rates for the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop and understand the type of price to performance on offer.
Is the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 good as a gaming laptop? Excellent
Processor - An excellent CPU for running AAA game requirements, especially during the 2020 gaming year. It will be solid for some time to come as well. Modern AAA gaming can use multiple cores and this processor comes with 6 of them. This makes it excellent for today’s gaming.
Graphics Card - The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q is an excellent gaming GPU for 2020. With 8GB of VRAM available to the GPU, this graphics solution doesn’t have to worry about a shortage, when it comes to modern AAA gaming, making it an excellent choice..
System Memory - This laptop’s 16GB of RAM is excellent for 2020 gaming.
Screen Size - This laptop panel is an excellent 2020 size at 17.3". This will certainly help gamers see in game details and text. You can game on smaller physical screens, but once you get to this sort of screen size its a nicer experience, while still providing mobile gaming.
Refresh Rate - Look for higher refresh rate hertz for a gaming laptop. Ideally around 120Hz or more refresh rate on a gaming laptop screen. The laptop can only deliver FPS(frames per second) up to the listed refresh rate. So if you have hardware in your laptop that can turn out awesome frame rates on all the latest AAA titles, but a 60hz refresh rate, your laptop will be stuck at a maximum of 60FPS in all games. We can see this laptop can support high gaming refresh rates, with 240Hz screen panel built in. This is excellent refresh rates for gaming. More than 60Hz would still be suitable for gaming.
One of the most important components to a gamer for this laptop is getting it’s graphics card right. We will be taking a look at the sort of price to performance ratio the laptop hardware has and in particular help us know if how well the graphics card can run Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p ultra settings. We find a GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q mobile graphics card in this laptop, which is currently capable of playing 493 games, if you consider their minimum graphics system requirements as the playable level to beat. However, today the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q is also capable of running 384 games at their recommended specs, this is when compared to the top 500 most demanding games.
Have you been looking for the best gaming laptop for your buck? Well you have probably encountered what we have, which is that, only certain laptops are normally reviewed and even then the review is often using games that are now getting out of date. So we decided to factor in all permutations of the GS75 Stealth model range and compare them against the price adjustments those hardware variations incur when you change a GPU, for example. And so we have created this MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop price to performance review with a P2P rating to help standardise our comparisons.
The MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 gaming laptop is currently getting a 0 on our P2P rating out of 10. Higher is better and this figure will adjust as new hardware and prices shift over time This version of the GS75 Stealth laptop is currently positioned at 15th when ordered in the range lineup for Price to Performance value rating. The closer to 1st place the better gaming performance it deliver for its price.

Our GS75 Stealth laptop should also be compared to today’s best Price to Performance model, the ASUS TUF A15 R7 4800H GTX 1660 Ti 16GB RAM 512GB M.2. When stacked up against this, our laptop has 100% worse rating difference on its P2P. It's worth noting that the very best P2P model has a recorded price of $986.99 to consider and of course this is purely a value for performance basis. Again only comparing against Price to Performance we can see that the second best model in today’s P2P ranking list is the Acer Nitro 5 2020 R5 4600H GTX 1650 Mobile 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 laptop, and our laptop is 100% worse when compared against this price to performance rating. The price of the 2nd best laptop is listed as $858.54.
To get a good comparison when considering how well this laptop performs in terms of processing power, we will compare it to today’s most powerful CPU focused laptop. This will at least show us what other sorts of processor-centric laptops exist and give us a relative point of laptop processor cost comparison. We have chosen our comparison CPU focused laptop today as the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 R9 4900HS RTX 2060 Mobile 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 1440p, which comes armed with the Ryzen 9 4900HS 8-Core 3.0GHz laptop CPU. This top tier CPU is currently delivering 35% better performance when benched against our own review laptop’s Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz.
Today there are 480 games recommended system requirements that are worse than our CPU’s performance capability, this is when we look at the top 500 most demanding games right now. This figure becomes 500 games, when we look at the 500 demanding games for minimum processor system requirements.
Some of the most popular games today are really the primary benchmark for any laptop’s ability, so we thought we should compare our laptop CPU Core i7-10750H 6-Core 2.60GHz against Cyberpunk 2077. This CPU performance comparison saw our laptop deliver 28% better performance against the game’s recommended CPU system requirements. Then we have Watch Dogs Legion and our laptop was 28% better in processor performance and another popular title today is Assassins Creed: Valhalla which we saw our review laptop get 28% better compared to our laptop cpu.
Now lets see how well our review laptop holds up compared against graphical performance with the top performing GPU laptop available today. Today’s MSI GT76 Titan i9-10900K RTX 2080 64GB RAM 2.0TB M.2 4K comes with one of the more powerful laptop graphics solutions available for game crunching at the moment, making it a good one to compare against our review laptops GPU. We will use its GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB to compare against our GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q card. The top end laptop’s GPU currently delivers 53% better performance when benched against our own review laptop’s GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q.
Currently 384 games of the top 500 most demanding games today (recommended graphics requirements) can run on the review laptop’s GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q. Or 493 games of the top 500 most demanding for minimum GPU specs can run on it.
Recommended graphics requirements for modern games increase all the time, so we thought we would compare the performance of our laptop graphics card to some popular games of today. First off there is Watch Dogs Legion and our laptop GPU delivers 20% better performance compared to that game’s requirement. Next we have Assassins Creed: Valhalla in which we see our laptop graphics has 20% better performance compared to the game's video card specs. And then there is 20% better performance when we put our laptop gpu against Cyberpunk 2077 recommended specs.
This laptop’s panel has a physical 17.3" screen that delivers 1920x1080 pixels natively. But should you consider moving from this 1080p laptop and searching for a 4K laptop instead, with the intention of getting better visuals for your games or movies? A 4K laptops will likely run with 60Hz screen refresh rate, so should the laptop’s hardware be able to get good frame rates at 4K resolution and due to the refresh rate the laptop would max out at 60 frames per second as its screen would not be capable of delivering any higher. Modern games in Ultra graphics settings are also normally too demanding for a 4K resolution anyway. With a bigger refresh rate helping your FPS this MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 has 240Hz screen refresh rate variants available.
Dropping a game’s resolution down from the laptop’s native 4K resolution to a more sustainable 1080p or maybe 1440p, would certainly deliver extra frames and improve stability. So there is always that option if the experience is unplayable due to low frame rates. But know that this action comes at a price. Dropping from a monitor or laptop panel’s native resolution immediately reduces in-game visual definition across all the game’s graphics. It basically makes the game look blurry. Not an ideal situation if you just bought your new 4K gaming laptop. A 1080p laptop can still have some powerful gaming hardware in it and if it is good enough to run AAA games at larger resolutions like 4K or 1440p then attach it to a desktop monitor while you are at home and stationary. If the desktop monitor is pretty good then it wont have a 60Hz refresh rate limiting its FPS count in game. And is likely to be a whole lot more enjoyable playing on a 24 inch or larger monitor than the more standard 15 or 17inch screen normally found on gaming laptops.
If you are looking to view 4K streaming content, while keeping yourself mobile with your laptop, then maybe a 4K resolution panel would be a better experience than the normal 1080p. In general, we think it's probably not worth the extra money for any visual gains you might not spot, without a direct comparison, especially if you are thinking to game on your laptop as well.
As you can probably gather from the information above, its probably not worth the extra cash for a 4K laptop if gaming is your Laptop purpose. 1080p is likely plenty and has enough alternative gaming options for when you want better resolution. It feels like you might not get what you were after if you picked up a shiny new 4K laptop, then was needing to lower game resolution, while getting blurry in-game experience and achieving a max 60FPS when you could push the hardware into better frame rates.
An example of a well priced 1440p desktop monitor would be the ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV 27 inch 1440p 75Hz 5ms IPS, which has 75Hz and is currently available for $294.99. To help provide some further information into this desktop monitor price trends we saw it cost a recorded low of $272.99, which we tracked on 5th Aug 2020.
A well priced 4K gaming monitor with 144Hz refresh rate is the Asus Predator XB273K 27 inch 4K GSYNC IPS 1ms 144Hz. It has a price today of $829.99 and should be a nice accompaniment to the MSI GS75 Stealth i7-10750H RTX 2070 Max-Q 16GB RAM 1.0TB M.2 laptop. This 4K monitor, during these past couple of weeks, has increased its price by $799. It’s still a solid purchase to accompany this laptop but it means you may find it for even cheaper at the moment, if you look around. Our 4k monitor price tracker recorded and marked its lowest price on 11th Aug 2020, it reached the lower price of $797.05.
[Note - check that monitor display connectors are compatible between a monitor and a laptop before purchase]
However, you could be after watching 4K streaming content on your laptop, while on the move. Then perhaps the 17inch laptop screen and 4K resolution is going to net a more enjoyable experience than a 1080p alternative.
As you can probably gather from the information above, it's probably not worth the extra cash for a 4K laptop if gaming is your Laptop purpose. 1080p is likely plenty and has enough alternative gaming options for when you want better resolution.
