Alone in the Dark: Illumination packshot image
Alone in the Dark: Illumination is a PC-only horror game due out later this year, and will be shown in full at Seattle’s PAX Prime event later this month. Fondly remembered as the roots of the horror genre, Alone in the Dark began in the original 1992 DOS release, making a name for itself for its story based on Lovecraftian lore. It’s undergone a number of different reboots already, including the Resident Evil style Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare, and the poorly received Alone in the Dark 2008 reboot. Now it’s back with Alone in the Dark: Illumination, which Atari pitches as a re-imagined take on the classic survival horror series. In development at relatively unknown studio Pure, a teaser website has cropped up for Alone in the Dark: Illumination, with more expected to be shown in Autumn.

Alone in the Dark: Illumination

GeForce GTX 1060

Low Vs Ultra GeForce GTX 1060 Performance Review

Viewing the performance found on the 4 year old GeForce GTX 1060 while playing Alone in the Dark: Illumination we quickly see it can get a very strong 146 FPS. With that performance recorded at 1920x1080 res when running High graphics.

As this is a relatively powerful GPU, especially when comparing it to Alone in the Dark: Illumination rec requirements, it would make more sense if you pushed it up to 1440p or 4K, where even at Ultra 4K graphics settings the GeForce GTX 1060 will still get a solid 48 FPS.

To summarise, GeForce GTX 1060 graphics cards can smoothly run this game, but what Alone in the Dark: Illumination screen resolution would you like to run with? While you can get 48 FPS with 4K Ultra you can increase your frame rate to 80 FPS in Ultra 1440p and up to 105 FPS with 1080p. Pricing this on a frame per frame around the graphics cards original price it will cost $2.37 per 1080p Ultra frame. This increases to $3.11 per frame at 1440p Ultra and even more with 4K Ultra at $5.19 per frame.
