The Extinction packshot image
The Extinction is an indie 2.5D Space Shooter. In the current stage, the game focuses on the arcade type of gameplay, which obviously is not that challenging, but still fun. Player has an opportunity to play four Game-Modes including the most expanded one - Side Campaign. In this gamemode player has to invade planets which provide money and resources like iron or fuel, then protect them with defensive buildings and finally - get to the boss of the solar system and destroy him. While playing this gamemode, you can always complete side missions, to get more money and XP and explore, freely the void between the planets to search for some more resources.

The Extinction

Radeon RX 550 4GB

Low Vs Ultra Radeon RX 550 4GB Performance Review

Viewing the performance found on the 4 year old Radeon RX 550 4GB while playing The Extinction we quickly see it can return a consistently high 200+ frame rate. Note that those results would be running at High and 1920x1080 screen res.

Following on from those 1920x1080 screen FPS, we know this GPU is of a much higher performance than the recommended system specs. Even 4K Ultra returns 79 FPS on The Extinction. But it’s still worth considering the $1.00 per Ultra 4K FPS you would get compared to the $0.59 at 1440p Ultra.

This is a powerful graphics card for The Extinction and we can certainly recommend it to deliver 4K screen res at ultra settings. Get a system with at least 2GB of RAM though. The PC’s processor would also want to be around the AMD Ryzen R3 1200X’s performance to get a smooth experience.

To summarise, Radeon RX 550 4GB graphics cards can smoothly run this game, but what The Extinction screen resolution would you like to run with? While you can get 79 FPS with 4K Ultra you can increase your frame rate to 133 FPS in Ultra 1440p and up to 174 FPS with 1080p. Pricing this on a frame per frame around the graphics cards original price it will cost $0.45 per 1080p Ultra frame. This increases to $0.59 per frame at 1440p Ultra and even more with 4K Ultra at $1.00 per frame.
