what the hell are you trying to do ??!!
i5-3317U has 2 physical cores, 4 threads (=logical cores), there is NO locking/unlocking possible (only in BIOS you can disable HyperThreading eventually)

no it doesn't :P
in msconfig you can only tune startup properties, there is no option to choose number of cpu cores for runtime :)

That sets the number of cores to use during booting. Isn't it obvious ? Why do you think it is under the boot section ? Tzzsmk is right :)

72unknown .."boot" section settings affects only boot conditions (I do have 8 cores ticked for boot because it's little faster on my PC, but it does not affect how many cores the OS will see after you login)
could you post a picture showing you have only 2 cores? it could be a possible bug, but I first need to see where exactly the issue is shown :)

Unparking has nothing to do with getting extra cores.

little bit, because parking basically means it disables the core in order to save power (LOL Microsoft plzz), just check taskmanager//resource monitor to see if Windows is parking your cores when it decides there's no need to use them :P

So do you guys use any optimizers? Or tweak OS by hand (you know changing Windows settings and registry hacks manually)? Or both?
Personally I use TuneUp Utilities, has good tools and provides easy access to hidden Windows settings.

I like to tweak the registry a bit and change the overall look and feel of my OS. For example, I have a custom background for my login screen and a custom start button.

I use regedit and some small utilities (to change start orb for ex.), also advanced windows visual settings (changing window border width and such);
TuneUp are quite bad imho, because it make more mess than useful things :|
Object Dock is kinda slow and since I have 2560 pixels wide monitor I can fit all needed icons on taskbar directly :Đ

Regedit is quite useful and the most customizations are done with as well as using group policy editor(Windows 8). But in contrast to tuneup it is difficult but Tuneup can't do what Regedit can do! For OS customizations regedit is the main program. For fixing Windows Problems for Example Activation Errors or even activation can be done easily through Command prompt. CMD is also a favourite choice of hackers :D

for fixing problems I like CCleaner (fixes registry issues without crashing PC),
CMD commands are useful for making .bat files or quickly determining things (like ipconfig or ping )

TuneUp cleanup is n ot bad imo, I use it mainly as an AIO control centre, all hidden settings in 1 place. I just turn off the auto-care functions and only use it like every 2 months.
