ASUS VG248QE 24inch Review
ASUS VG248QE fast gaming monitor shortens the time it takes for rendered frames to display on the screen. Lower monitor latency gives a gamer the opportunity to improve their in-game response time.
The 144Hz rapid refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver ultra-smooth motion scenes in 2D intense actions*.
The response time is also reduced to 1ms to eliminate tracers by controlling voltage levels when driving liquid crystals thus ensuring fluid and clear video playback.

Would my specs make this monitor a waste of money? I plan on upgrading to a gtx 970 in the future but am hesitant to buy this monitor considering I might be able to achieve 144 fps on newer games. Would appreciate any help or advice.

There is 1 HDMI connection on this monitor, as well as 1 Display Port connection. Also, according to ASUS the 144hz refresh rate won't work using HDMI connection, it's DVI-D (One comes with the monitor) or Display Port only. I just ordered the screen today so I'll find out when it gets here, since I know HDMI 1.4 is able to support 144hz refresh, and I just so happen to own such a cable.

Well I have it now, and can confirm that the HDMI connection doesn't support 144hz refresh rate. The 27 inch VG278HE is essentially the big-brother of this one, and IT has a HDMI 1.4 interface, but this one does not.
On another note, it's friggin beautiful in every way. It -does- take quite a bit of adjusting before it will look right for most people, but so far I'm completely happy with it. I checked a couple movies that were visual-effects heavy (Avengers and Star Trek) and they look great, and since then I've been enjoying Arkham Origins. All looks brand new again :P
