Upcoming AC IV: Black Flag DLC Will Hint At Assassins Creed V Setting

The upcoming single-player DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Freedom Cry, is set to contain hints as to where Ubisoft’s globetrotting franchise is heading in its next installment.

The substantial story-based DLC that focuses on Edward Kenway’s quartermaster Adewale is said to contain numerous hints to the potential locale of the next Assassin’s Creed outing, with only the most hardcore of fans able to identify them…

Speaking in an interview, creative director Wesley Pincombe said "There are some [hints] but our fans will only discover them in the future, they're in your face, but you'd have to be a hardcore fan to understand them."

The Freedom Cry DLC will be in an entirely new setting, fifteen years after the events of the main game, “You’re going to a new setting with new crowd life,” said Pincombe. “New enemies, new AI. Port-au-Prince is a French colony - there are no French colonies in Black Flag so that is all new.

Rumours have surfaced over recent months of Assassin's Creed V adventures as far-reaching as Egypt, feudal Japan and even ancient South-American civilisations. A ninja-themed Japanese adventure seems to be what a large chunk of the fanbase is craving, but I can’t help thinking a Victorian London setting would be fantastic for the series, with narrow alleyways, imposing buildings and the typically atmospheric rolling fog.

Expect an announcement on the whereabouts of the next Assassin’s Creed game over the coming 2-3 months.

Where do you think it will be set?

How would you like to see the gameplay evolve?

Cheers to HEAVENISHELL for the heads up!

There is 90% of chance that the next
assassins creed will based on French
revolution. that what I studied by

Yea, it would be a spoiler. Yet, don't be sure at all mate ;) They excel and confusing us :D and I doubt it would be the French Revolution. According to some sources, Assassin's Creed V is under Re-scoping to make it ultimately new and different and French Revolution setting would be very similar to ACIII :)

I wish to know how haytham kenway became a Templar, so it would be great if ubisoft bring back the whole story of him. and what happen to edward's daughter, and the million dollars question Is, who gave birth to haytham, I mean who is his mother?
the storyline of assassins creed is getting really messy

You can go read the novel and know everything about Haytham and Later Edward. Thing is, they will never make a game that was told in a novel once before :) One more thing, we have had enough of that setting already and the Kenway Saga is officially complete!

-haytham became a templar because of reginald birch, who manimpulated him and killed his father
-Edward's daughter was kidnapped by Birch, then sold to somebody, eventually ending up in Constantinople (Haytham saved her sometime after he hooked up with Ziio, thus learning of birch's betrayal and killing him in the process, but remains a templar since he saw their beliefs to be more logical than the assassins')
-Edward married Tessa Stephenson Oakley and she gave birth to Haytham

From the previous installment, i expect the setting probably around 1800 until 1899. Around that time a lot of historical event happened, such as Napoleon's 1812 War, Civil War, Jack the Ripper, Perry Expedition to Japan. Or maybe french revolution.

@salmoncarppacio, I doubt Darim will have anything to do with a setting in Egypt. If it is Egypt, Ubisoft won't mistaken herself, the game should head to Ancient Egypt my friend. By the time Darim was in Alexandria, it was the Islamic Reign in Egypt. One of the best eras we have lived but still similar to AC1 and could be made in the whole Arab Nation. Egypt is unique for its Pharaohs!

Oh ho! It seems you know nothing about this Era. Pharaohs had all what you could ever imagine. They are the first civilization to set foot in this world. They had medicines, they were perfect at Medicine. They had weapons, creative ones that they were the first to organize armies from legions, wings and battalions. Don't forget about Magic too. The most mysterious part of the Pharaohs life. This magic made miracles to them where some of these miracles were just illusions and some else really affected their lives. It is a very rich soil for a very interesting game, so how on Earth would it suck?! Pharaohs didn't fight with stone weapons, they fought with Elephants, Chariots and Artillery!

Nope dude. This Magic has nothing to do with Fireballs, Thunderbolts, Necromancers and Elemental Sorcerers. It is a true magic. Something that really existed in this era, something which is very mysterious my friend. It won't take place in the game like magic games the likes of Dragon Age or The Witcher. It could be present like illusion. Something to scare people away or build a mysterious story about a piece of eden shrouded in the mystery of Egyptian Magic. Magic will set a very intriguing background of the game and won't be a gameplay element dude :)

Yea I already got what you said and answered it dude :) The kind of sorcery existed in Ancient Egypt is not applicable as a gameplay element. Perhaps, Ubisoft can surprise us with little usage in gameplay but the main point is that it will be in the background of the game. Building a story on such a mystery is amazing and it is a perfect soil to hide a piece of eden :)

Rope darts should be Chinese but expect to see something similar :) Nile is the longest river but not the widest so no naval combat there but don't forget the mighty Egyptian Fleet in the Mediterranean, so perhaps there can be naval combat but not as wide-spread as AC4 which is good for a change. Guns, we are demanding not to use them, we are going back in time. Dual wielding, of course, it is a feature the game has gained and won't lose it but we may see new weapons to dual wield :D Chariots, they can't miss that. It is one of the war gear the defines the Pharaohs. Scythed Chariots. Though I don't expect finding myself riding one instead of regular horses. Unless, there is finally a companion to assist you in the game. I believe now you signed in? ;) :D

Magic of any kind would be an extremely stupid element to try and add to Assassin's Creed. I don't even understand why you would want to bring that into this series. Same thing goes with the ninja stuff. The Creed would never allow an assassin to act like ninja's. If anything, Assassin's would be just as prone to hunting them down as they are to hunting down and killing Templars.

There was no magic of the sort that you manipulate someone, control something or conjure creatures of shadow. Conjuring creatures was illusion and I say for the millionth time that the type of magic in Egypt is not fit for any gameplay sort whether for AC or any other game. It is all about a background and atmosphere for the game. Btw, Alchemy would be good for the gameplay. You crafted your own bombs in Revelations. Your own weapons in ACIII and your own outfits and upgrades in ACIV, time to craft your own medicines, poisons and potions. A nice and new gameplay element in my opinion :)

I still think you have no clue what you're talking about when it comes to magic. Alchemy would be a stupid addition to the series, as it's a type of magic. Chemistry would be a good addition to the series. Maybe the ability to craft your own poisons that have various effects, i.e. instant death, death over time, sleepiness, and rage. Maybe even craft some beneficial medicines.

Also, pharaoh's didn't practice sorcery, they had sorcerers that practiced sorcery. Even then, you're talking about things that are mentioned in the bible and not a single credible place besides. The closest thing to what you're talking about might be Norse style magic, which really is more of a self empowerment based magic.

Unfortunately, you picked up the wrong person to question his words. Before saying anything mate, remember very well that I am telling my history! I am telling what I know about my ancestors so I do know what I am talking about. Also what you say that is in the Bible is also in the Quran, my holy book. Perhaps you are right about Alchemy being a type of magic but then the only problem here is misnaming that situation since I already explained what I meant with alchemy and it is the same you are telling now about poisons and medicines. "Pharaoh's didn't practice sorcery" Yea, you meant by the word "Pharaohs" The kings of Egypt. I meant the whole civilization. See the difference? Also, who told you that there was no Sorcerer Kings? Sorcerers were very influential and we only know few of the Kings who ruled Egypt. I am telling facts about my ancestors, so you'd better not underestimate me!

Yeah, because my English heritage means that I literally know everything about England's history. Oh, and if someone where talking about the "Kings of England" I would assume they were talking about the rulers of England and not every English citizen. I would also use the word Chemistry when referring to Chemistry and not Alchemy. I would also not try and bring religion into a conversation that doesn't have anything to do with it, nor would I use my religion to justify myself as being more knowledgeable about a given subject than someone not of my faith.

Also, you will notice that I took great care in how I phrased myself there. Good day to you, sir.

Seems someone here is insistent to misunderstand everything! I didn't claim to know everything about my history and all what I meant is that my information source is my history. Pharaohs word is sometimes used to describe the whole nation and not only the rulers unlike the word Kings which is very obvious. I misused the word Alchemy and I clarified that in my previous comment. I never attempted to bring religion to this conversation, I just noted that this topic is also in Quran and not only Bible and my words shouldn't have given you any other indications of anything! State me one word I said that should indicate that I use my religion to justify myself being more knowledgeable or that I even claimed to be more knowledgeable. Your thoughts about Bible are yours and you are free about it. None said anything regarding religion, Bible or Quran! You left the main topic and went to nonsense!

Yeah, but the thing about Japanese assassin's would be honor. Because of that, The guy who we would be playing would have to conduct himself really well, unlike the bad ass Edward. Also, some of the other Japanese elements like Harakiri ( ritual suicide ) and super ninja stealth would be awesome. Although, it might be difficult to fit in Karate mechanics ( very complex ) in an AC game. The katana for short range, the shuriken for long range, And the Bushido code of honor. The Wakizashi blade, which is a specialty curved blade, and the short Tanto blade, which could be used by agiles and the protagonist, and two types of bows, the yumi or short bow and the daikyu or the longbow, meant essentially for horseback riding. Mountain stealth also

Sorry, I exceeded my character limit. Moving on, Mountain stealth was very important to the Japanese and they soaked their arrows with oil and fired them up before shooting, so goodbye guns. They fired multiple arrows at their enemies ( like assassins creed brotherhood and revelations's arrow storm ) They blocked enemies with burning trenches and had a whole system of castle cover and weapon reloading hideouts and they used natural obstacles like fallen tree branches to block enemy paths while they finished the enemy off. There is also the huge element of naval combat because of Japan being an island nation and they had a lot of interest in whaling, so they could bring back the feature. I'll tell some more after we all debate on this. :) :D

Are you Japanese man? O.o Half of these stuff I don't know ^_^
I'd not worry about the weapons, I know Ubi will handle it very correctly as they always did. I care more about how the Assassin and the Templar Orders will fit into the game. I believe that the honor of the Samurai would be perfect for the Assassin Order where the Templars can represent the foreign influence crawling inside Japan through its Rulers. Through its Rulers means no more English Redcoats and two nations battles like ACIII and ACIV, just JAPAN! Yet Samurai wore quite a heavy armor for an Assassin while Ninjas had what really suits the Assassins. Perhaps, a Ninja who joined the Samurai? I am not very knowledgeable on the subject :D
Btw, Karate mechanics were used in Sleeping Dogs and they were nice, Ubi would need to adjust them for blades combat as well ;) Katana would be awesome with bows and shurikens

My turn, I too exceeded character limit ;) All what you say in your second comment is really perfect for Assassins. Hideouts, fire arrows and natural obstacles, and yeah, Naval combat could return too but with a more respected form, WARRIORS and not PIRATES :D NO GUNS is a must, perhaps enemies could have guns, but Samurais never used them as far as I know, so at least no guns for the protagonist :D

I'm Indian. But I'm also a history nut and did a lot of research for several possible settings for AC. I'm a HUGE AC fan and I would love to see these settings. Also, let's talk about Japanese music, You know, Japan doesn't have that many percussion instruments but the variety of string instruments is a lot. The biwa hoshi, which accompanies a lot of songs, would be great for background music. The Japanese drum, Taiko would be great as well. The warrior homecoming was always accompanied by music, And I would love the articulateness the game would have. With Japanese shoji of fusuma, those paper screens with art, It would be cool to look at and could form great collectibles. Don't forget Japanese paper fans. I'll tell more in my next post.

Actually, all what you say should make the game great. Japan in the era of Samurai and Ninja is a setting that was never explored in Video Games and was very little explored in movies that I can only remember "The Last Samurai" which was a masterpiece. Ubisoft should take the advantage of this setting and its competitor, Ancient Egypt to further shine and polish its flagship, Assassin's Creed :)

Also, In Egypt, I'm just a little worried about the stealth mechanics. How do you think they would integrate some good stealth. There aren't forests to do that in like in ACIV. The sand, maybe ? I dunno. I also think that booby trapped pyramids could be the successor to the old ruins in ACIV. Your ideas, please.

We will break the record, sir :D
Well, Stealth is really a challenge in ancient Egypt. In desert, not every place is suitable for stealth but thing is, Ancient Egypt desert is different from nowadays Egypt's desert. The western side of the Nile was where the dead was buried. Temples were scattered across both the Eastern and Western deserts. Many of these temples were lost thanks to 5000 years have passed. Don't forget villages and small towns across the desert too. I believe and not certain that Ancient Egypt's desert was quite crowded more than nowadays. Temples will be perfect for stealth, villages will be like coconut villages in ACIV. The empty ocean in ACIV will be the empty parts of the desert in Egypt. The Pyramids and any other minor pyramid built by an lesser Pharaoh will replace the old Mayan ruins but with a major difference, Egypt's glory will be all great and new! :D

I haven't played it yet, to be honest :p
I bought the entire AC series when I saw how awesome AC4 was going to be.
I played AC1 for a few hours but got bored with it. Almost completed AC2 which is an awesome game btw. But then AC4 was released and I immediately started playing that.
So I have yet to finish AC2, play AC revelations and Brotherhood and AC3...

not just PC buddy, it's on PS3 and 360 as well, but yeah, it's an HD remake of Liberation with a bit more features and I think missions as well. Personally, if there as gonna be a French Revolution storyline, I don't see Connor fitting too well, I mean, why would he go all the way to France? while he would still be relatively young (33 when the French Revolution started), he has know mentions of any ties to France except Aveline, and she's an African-French, lady, the only way I could see it being feasible would be if she had to go for some reason, and Connor accompanied her.

they were, it made it harder survive an encounter, guns were everywhere in the Revolution. ALso at least they took a bit to reload, although in ACIV, I found it SO satisfying just unloading all 4 shots of Edward's pistols into enemies and watching them fall, personally, I think the guns would be fine staying at about that level, not any further. (do maybe the US Civil War at the latest)

Honestly, I love AC4 but the entire naval thing is just not for me. I think Egypt, London and India, all of those would be great settings and will most likely happen at some point. London I think they'll go next, because Britain has been quite involved in AC3 and AC4 but honestly I don't care as long as it adds another piece of the puzzle to the story. It's my favourite campaign by far but would love to see a co-op AC story too.

Gameplay:
I would like to be MOAR assassin and less one-man-army :[
Setting:
If you played the game and hacked some computers in modern day you'll read hints for next game its about Egypt, England, China/Japan/India and even Germany during world war 2 (but they say its not easy when you have vehicles or and heavy machinery in time line ?!)... the strange thing is that there is almost no hints about ancient Greece (or i did not saw it ?!) which i find very strange and it might actually be next time frame in AC V. Anyway i think AC V should be in China (The Mongol Conquest, Manchu Conquest of China, The Taiping Rebellion, An-Lushan Rebellion etc.) or Feudal Japan, just imagine NINJAS OMG :D.
ps: Just search "history of the world" and you'll realize just how many Assassin's Creed games we could have lol this Assassin's Creed is an endless story or an VERY long one xD

what i want for AC V :
-A new assassin (Edward was great, but don't overuse him like Ezio)
-Parkour-tastic rooftops ( i miss firenze and venice)
-More stealth (seriouslly though, i'm an assassin not a man ogre)
-revamped physics engine (have you seen the dead bodies?)
-replace or revamp the follow missions it's getting tedious
-dedicated crouch button
-button to put the hood on or off
-a new modern day protagonist (that's not boring)
what do you guys think? anything you'd like to add?

Agreed my friend. Though missing Firenze and Venice won't bring them back. The series is exploring new settings :)
Crouch button is a must in my opinion and preferably a stick to cover function as well. Any cover, low, high and not just the end of a wall. Advanced stealth techniques is welcome of course but actually, ACIV had very good stealth in my opinion. As far as I remember, there is not a single mission where stealth was applicable and I didn't finish in stealth :)
Having a button for hood setting is not important. What they did with it in ACIV was fine but if they do it, that is still nicer ;)

Now that you ask me, an AI partner would be appreciated. You have your own crew, and yet, when you go off to an island to discover or for a mission, whatever it may be, I'd like to have a companion. Just silly that you go off alone when your crew is slacking in your ship. This is just me, of course. But I'd sure love another sneaky assassin with me (something like Skyrim) :)

Well, not a whole bunch really. Those arrow strikes were kinda hilarious to me, especially for an Assassin's game. That made it hopelessly easy. I know it's a choice but when it's there you tend to use it, and when you do that, it breaks the whole thing. But yeah, a single companion would be appropriate. To me :)

If anything it would be nice to see a companion that acts more like Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite. Not really interfering in the game but helping out when needed and adding some flavor to the game. If they could have a companion that perfect then it would be good, anything less would just suck. Like the companions from The Last of Us. Running around, getting int he way, and the enemy can't see or hear them. It ruined parts of that game.

As it is saying that the DLC will take part at a French colony, why not AC5 in France ? Another thing I'm thinking about is that, the AI will surely talk in french, and maybe the hints would be in french language, so those who understands french may be the lucky ones finding out about the setting of AC5 :P

I would really wish to see Assassin's Creed going to the land of my ancestors, Egypt! Ancient Egypt! I would also like to see a ninja or samurai themed Japan. That would be the best for me though I would still be interested in England. Oh my beloved classic England :)
Anyway, I'd like to steer away very far from what we used to in ACIII and ACIV from the colonies and such thing. I wish to steer away from using guns as well.
I believe too that a new game engine will be in development for the game if not already in development. In terms of gameplay, I want a whole new tough combat system. I believe they should try making difficulty levels as other games do, so the game is easy for seasoned gamers and much challenging for us, Assassins!

Holding down E failed in both AC3 and AC4 because that only deflected attacks. Counters needed a timed trigger. It's built on different levels of AIs, percentage of opportunities to counter, be countered or blocked. A progression system to increase your efficiency in combat.
